How can I make my interior lights fade out?

I want to make my interior lights fade out instead of just going out, like how the last body design of the Impala does (I'm not sure if the new one does it or not). Does anyone know if someone out there makes some sort of relay that could do this? Or maybe if there is a stand alone relay in the Impala that makes the interior light fade that I could go to a dealer a buy (somehow I doubt it's a seperate relay though)?

That can probably be done with a capacitor. Not sure what value you would need. If the positive side were to be connected to the 12V source of the dome light circuit, and the negative to ground, the capacitor should provide voltage to the light until it discharges causing the light to fade out.

Ok, I found this doing a Google seach:

Would there be anything dangerous about doing that?

Should be fine. A larger value cap will also increase the dimming time. Only thing I can think of is arming an alarm, since most use the dome light circuit for a door trigger (light on means door open), so you wouldn't be able to arm it until the light goes out.

I found a black box type of circuit you can make with cheap parts, and make it adjustable.
