Hello all,

My name is Jason from Arizona and Im a new member here. I have a 1988 Trans Am GTA with digital gauges that I recently got a couple weeks ago and I love it. My only problem is that my digital gauges are basically worn out. The only thing that is fuctioning normal and lit up completely is the Oil Pressure, Fuel, Water Temp, and Voltage. I've been doing some research and I really would like to throw in new digital gauges with led lit up that would last a long long time, longer than stock ones I have. I can go look for the stock digital gauge replacement on ebay but i question myself... is it really worth it? should I go with a completely new look? I've run into Dakota gauges but its built for the camaros only. I dont see any other companies that makes a custom dash for Trans Am's. What do you all think about Cyberdyne gauges and use it with analog gauges dash from the trans am put em all together? Has anyone tried it? Im interested in hearing your comments.

Welcome to the board. I have an 87 Trans Am that I would like to put some Cyberdyne gauges myself, but I just want it on the pillar arm instead of the dash. I'm thinking of getting a digital tach and a digital speedo and an analog fuel pressure gauge. I'm sure it would look pretty sweet if you already had the digital dash. I've seen alot of custom analog dashes, but I don't think I've ever seen an all digital dash...good idea..

 

Thanks for the Welcome. I've been researching for answers and Im not finding the answers i need. Can anybody here on the forum tell me if I can hook up any aftermarket digital gauges to my current digital dash so I can get rid of the Stock (Faded ones)? Does Dakota Digital have that option? or any other places? Please let me know. Thanks!

Not many people have even seen the digital gauge cluster in person to even say if you can use a different gauge with it.

It was only available for a little bit, and the interior wiring harness is completely different from a stock harness because of all of the extra sensors.

It may be some time before anyone can answer your questions.

Your best bet is to get the wiring diagrams from a manual and start tracing wires. there isn't much information on the boards about this.

 

Occasionally there is some original digital sets on ebay. Unfortunately since it was a rare option there isn't allot of information on them. Personally I have always found that analog gages tell me more because you can sense the motion and speed in which they change better than digital of course that depend on if you are building a race set up or a show set up. The digital does look good. You could find a donor car and swap in a standard gage cluster and wiring and I believe computer. Or get a donor Camaro and use the wiring computer etc to hook up the gages you referred to.

I just searched ebay and there was an orginal digital set up for $500.
