Have idea... on fiberglass. Might need help.

Kk. my 89 camaro when i bought it the headliner was in a plastic bag all curled up and crap. unrolled it today and decided im not going to buy a replacement... Im going to use the original...more my own and custom then opening a catolog. This is for a t-top 89 camaro.... What im going to do.. if it works... Is take the old headliner foam stuff. And use it to fiberglass... Ive read some about fiberglassing headliners and was plannign on doing it to my truck but sold it before i could play with any fiberglass at all. But this is what i plan on doing. Layign the foam out to the right length and finding a way to fix theparts that are ripped away and i dont have... weather thats finding an old raddey couch cusion and cutting it up or what who knows.... But going to lay it all out and glue as much of that up as possible and get that as clsoe as possible. Then im going to take some fllece...Well what cloth works the best for fiberglass?... What ever works the best ill lay that on it and get all bubles and that crap out... put the resin on and get that first layer then apply the fiber glass matt and make liek 2 layers of that or so.... Does this all sound like it may work to you all? Or do you think im about ready to fail?. Any tips or anythign before i start. Hers a pic of my head liner right now.

If you think you've got enough there to work with, then all the power to you. I'd never start with such a disaster. For what a used headliner out of a junk yard costs, I'd at least go get one of those. If you buy one with sagging fabric, they won't charge you hardly anything (I think I paid $5 for one like that), and at least you'll have a complete one to work with. Then you could either fiberglass that one, or just cover it in new material and call it a day.

Are you doing this because you want to save money, or do you just wanna go medieval costumizing on it??

If you wanna costumize it and make it different, than I am 100% behind ya. However don't fool yourself thinking that this will be cheap. Fibergalss, in general, aint cheap.

I would do a bit of searching through Junk Yards, and you just might find a head liner that is in decent, and sometimes great condition. That way you save yourself some money.

If you were to fiberglass this you will be buying some materials. Search yahoo.com for fiberglass speaker enclosures and you will find many tutorials that outline the easiest way of making stuff without doing a mold.

Good luck.

I used cheap bondo brand fiberglass with good results. $35 worth would cover that. I'm tempted to do it if my headliner ever gets damaged.

Well. Im not planning on going hard core buck wild customizing on it... but im not doing it to save money either. It was somehting i was looking at doing in my truck never got aorund it ait... Ive seen people wityh them and think they look killer. Plus if i want to add gauges or somehting... Then bam i can mold them in. Im just not sure if right now i have enough to work with. Im going to cal up some junk yards tonight to see what all they have though.
