Get a flathead screwdriver and pop out the clip in front of the **** (facing the stereo). Easiest to do this while the car is in low gear (so you have more room), then put it in park and slide it off......if it does not slide off easy (another thread) try to wiggle it back and forth while pulling on it.

Killer klown is absoluely correct.
If you want a cheap factory looking t-handle. Get a shift handle for a 89-90 cavailer Z24 and slide it on. Works great..............

cheap factory handle is what I have. Im lookin to upgrade. I wasnt sure if the release button was going to be a problem. Iv never taken one apart b4 and I have no idea how it goes together.

nope pretty simple to remove, I popped the c-clip and up it went, then installed my aftermarket...
