Seatbelt retractor for 86 Camaro
Seatbelt retractor for 86 Camaro
My mom and dad gave me their Camaro for my first car. It has the metal clips on the seatbelt things they must have had the recall done a while back, but the retractor does not take the drivers side seatbelt up. So basically the drivers side does not have a seatbelt. What do I need to do to get this fixed? Can me and my dad do it ourselves or is there someone I need to go to to have it fixed? My dad drove the car that way! I am not willing to risk my life!
Thanks!

Thanks!

You might be able to get these brand new through GM still.
There is one problem with the swap though

is there a way i could have this done profissionally? I am a 17 year old soon 18 year old girl, and my dad is very busy. OR is there a way I could install those seat belts that they use on racing seats? they arent retractable. Im not sure wat my best bet is here. This is gonna be my first car.

Any garage should be able to do it, though they might not want to for liability since you'd be using belts from a different car.
It's not that hard, and a good learning experience
These cars are old and they seem to always need something. It's nice to be able to fix things yourself and save some money, plus you get the satisfaction of knowing you did it.
And trying to install a harness would be a lot more work to do it the right way.

thank you for your opinion. you are right i was thinking that too about learning to do things my self to save money. my issue right now is my dad says he needs to take it to the garage and find out wat is wrong with it. it runs but he says its not drivable because he let it sit all winter and now he thinks there is somthing wrong with the engine he told me not to buy anything or do anything to it til he find out how much it will cost to fix it.=[ hopefully it wont be that major or cost that much money, i had my heart set in this car.

when I got my car my seatbelts didnt work at all, so I did the 4th gen swap, its pretty easy, so you should be able to do it. I did both of mine too, just take your time. although if you feel more comfortable having it done professionally then Im sure a alot of shops would do it for the right price.

well my dad told me to wait to do anything till he takes the car to the garage and finds out wat is wrong with it. If there is something major wrong with it i guess we arent going to have the car fixed which means im car searching =[
but thanks for the info! I am going to try to do it myself once my dad tells me i can go ahead and do it.
