Removing Headliner

1990 IROC 305

Just wondering how to remove headliner and install it around the center roof light? Doesnt seem to be any screws to remove light bracket and the material just seems to dissapear behind it.

Removing can be as easy as to cut around it, but to do a clean install, it seems like it should be able to come off and then go back on over top of new headliner.

Re: Removing Headliner

The dome light housing is held up with two round 1-way washers that push onto a shaft and then grab onto that shaft. Sometimes you can carefully remove them with pliers or a screwdriver, but I usually lose my patience, cut them with dykes and just reinstall new ones. You can buy a new package of them in the "HELP!" isle in parts stores.

I have a full tech article showing headliner removal and replacement, but my tech article shows the removal on a car with an overhead console, which isn't held up the same way as the dome light.

It's not a big deal, I just took mine out yesterday. Just follow the directions Jim posted.
