Re: auto windows to manual

why? i had manual windows, i swapped to power.

but if you insist, you need to drill out the rivets and replace the window regulator with a manual one, then drill a hole in your door panel for the crank.

Re: auto windows to manual

I sold a set of manual regulators to another member last week and still have 1 set left. $40 + shipping. This swap is pretty easy, the hardware I usually use to install the regulators is 4 short 10MM nuts bolts.

If you install a window regulator in the wrong holes it will cause significant adjustment problems once you try and raise the windows up. As long as you use the correct mounting holes any adjustments will be minimal. (You probably will not need to adjust anything if they are in the right holes !! )

with Power Windows - The rivets holding the regulator in place are located in the holes closest to the FRONT of the car.

with Manual windows, The 2 rivets holding the regulator in place are located in the holes closest to the BACK of the car. (See yellow circles) The other 2 mounting holes will line up with the right holes once the front 2 are in the right place. ( red circles )

If I remember right you can only install 2 bolts/nuts with the winodw down.... the other 2 holes are more easily accessable once the window is raised.

Re: auto windows to manual

I converted my Formula to manual windows, it took about 15 minutes per door. Swapped regulators, cut an X in the cloth for the manual crank, and that was it.

Re: auto windows to manual

I couldn't belive I was having as mush trouble as I was. It seems so basic and straight forward. I am going to try again tonight so I hop[e atleast the drivers side is done. I am having someone hold the window up while I get the manual reg. into place and then trying to get something in any of the holes. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Re: auto windows to manual

ok guys this is driving me insane. This is what I am doing to get these man. regs. in. I am having someone hold the window up and I am trying to slide in the man. reg and put the slides into the tracks. When I put the slides into the track and try to get it to line up with the holes in the door the window is not right. Now I have no idea if the reg is in the right spot meaing in the up postion or the down postion, but I have tried both. I have also tried both sides of the man regs. I am going to post pics of everything I am working with. I thought maybe that I have man regs for just one side of the car but they look differnt to me. I have also held up the man reg to the power reg and have come up with what i thought is the correct side. What am I doing wrong. Here are the pics.

So this last one I think is the correct side for the drivers. That is the drivers side power reg. The passenger side is still in the car so I know that is the drivers side.

Re: auto windows to manual

I just looked at the picture of the regulators I sold and I can't tell which is which without checking it (about 3 times) first. I'm just to tired to do that research right now !

Since your already involved in the project - take off the passenger side door panel. Match up the regulator on that side and then put the "matched" passenger regulator in the garage until your ready for it. Then try installing the drivers side regulator. Compare it to the drivers side power regulator and be sure that the manual regulator in in the "DOWN" position when you start.

When your installing the regulator raise the window all the way up to get the regulator in - and then lower it all the way before installing the rollers in thier tracks. Be sure you are putting the rollers in the correct tracks !

Also take notice of the square 'notch' in the door that is made specifically to hold the regulator in place. ( Power or manual. ) It's visigle in the very center of the picture i posted. Once all the rollers are in the tracks stick your arms inside the door and adjust everything until the regulator sits properly on the notch.

Re: auto windows to manual

I just want to say thanks again I have both doors done now. All I have to do is the doors panels, hopefully I wont mess the custom panels up. Anyone know how big of a hole to make for the cranks? I had the passenger door done in about 45 mins. I couldnt belive it. Thanks.
