Rear view mirror glass. Replaceable?

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the mirror glass in a lighted rear view mirror? It's in a 91, the one with one switch and the place where the other switch goes in previous years is an always on mini light. The mirror is getting some of that, err, I dunno what it's called. Separation? On the edges of the mirror. Also, where might I find a new replacement glass if it is doable? I searched some and only found glass for side view mirrors.

I would prefer to not just grab one from the junkyard as the mirror is likely to do the same thing due to age, even if I could find my specific mirror in a 91-92.

You're best bet is to grab one out of a junkyard. I've never even heard of anyone swapping out the glass. Hawks sells used ones for 25, but you could probably do better at a junkyard.

I need to replace the glass in the mirror of my 91 also. It's got a spot right in the middle that doesn't reflect anymore. Now that I think of it, you might try a glass shop that makes windows, mirrors, etc. They might be able to cut a new one. I need to go see about doing that one of these days.

Re: Rear view mirror glass. Replaceable?

My mirror had black spots from the heat of the lights showing through the mirror lense so after looking at some options I found a lighted one from a 1998 Z28 that was perfect. All I had to change was the power connector and since the body is slightly larger I don't think I will have any "burn-through" with this one.

Don't bother - They can't. I visited a glass shop in town years back to replace the cracked mirror glass on a mirror I had. He said he couldn't do it because of the way the mirror glass was made to "dim" when you flip that little switch on the bottom of it during night time driving to reduce glare. He was able to cut a mirror for me, but it was not the right kind of mirror glass.

Lighted mirrors sell on E-Bay for $10 + shipping all the time. Save yourself the agravation and effort and just buy a replacement mirror.
