Eliminating the Center Console.

My winter modifications this year are going to include new carpet, seats, and possibly a headliner. What Im planning on doing is eliminating the console, only cutting out of the carpet what I need for the shifter and e-brake, and installing boots around them for dress. Kind of an older look, but I've noticed that my Pro 5.0 preforms better without the console (The shifter actually makes contact with the shifter plate, and the boot bunches up and makes it more difficult to get the car into second, resulting in some missed shifts). Anyone do this? Any comments? I've already eliminated my airbag, so the sensor under the console is gone.

Re: Eliminating the Center Console.

Hey cooltc I took out my center console and got new carpet and only cut where the shifter is and the hole for the brake like you are talking about. I have an auto so I will be installing a B&M shifter that has a plastic box to cover the hole cut. In the pics you can see that I just put a boot over the shifter until I get the B&M installed. I personally like the look of no console better, but every one has their own preference.

What kind of boot are you going to use? I got mine off of ebay for like $10 or $15 for both shifter and brake. Since my is only temporary I did not want to take a lot of time making the shifter boot to the carpet look perfect. What do you plan on using to make it look stock?

For the boot I'm probably going to ask Redline if he can custom make one to my dementions out of the Italian leather that he uses. I have one of his boots for the shifter plate, but it would be too small for the floor (maybe, Ill have to do some measurments).

any pics of the finished product? I was wondering where you put the window switches? Also, did you need to get new carpet or is that what is underneath the console? The lid on my cover just broke and kinda like the cleaner look of no console.
