I know a guy from another site who is making leather interior panel kits for 4th gen interior, and so far they are turning out REALLY NICE. I am trying to talk him into making them for 3rd gens, because I really think it would help modernize the inside of our cars. Plus leather beats cheap plastic looks any day. Would there be any interest in this if I were to get him to make some 3rd gen stuff? We're talking full interior, not just one or two pieces.
Here's a link with what he's working on for the 4th gens.

Just so you guys know this isn't as easy as it looks. I've been trying to do this myself for a while and haven't had the best of success. You really need alot of patience at the same time as speed to get it in place and smoothed out before the adhesive dries. I'm amazed at how well he's gotten his stuff to look.

I'm not sure what colors would be available, but I'm pretty sure he is working to cover anything plastic. That means door panels, hatch pieces, center consoles, etc. I think if he made a full complete set there would be a lot of market for him in the 3rd gen world. I'm going to keep pushing the issue with him and see how far it gets us. His work is turning out to be spectacular.
Senior Member
ya would he send us the material then we put it on? i'd probably mess that up

Looks sweet. As long as there is dark black leather i'd be intrested. So the guy said it will be around 250 a kit?
That is pretty much the same thing I did to my interior, except I used tweed.

I would think that all that leather would get pretty warm in the summer though, I don't know that would affect the interior temp?
$250.00 is pretty cheap considering how much labor is involved, wow.
They look nice though, the other benifit is, with the material overlapping where the panels fit together, there are ALOT less interior squeaks and such I noticed after I did my car.

Hello everyone,
I'm the guy who is making these leather panel kits. Here's the original thread on LS1tech: http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=774205
The reason I don't make any products for the 3rd gen is because I didn't think there would be enough interest in them. If you guys can prove me wrong then I might work something up
These will be DIY kits w/ detailed instructions so all work would be done by you. I provide you with the pre-cut leather and everything you need to do it minus a heat gun. The 4th gen kits are not done yet, so I do not have a price but it's looking in the $300 range now...
I'm not trying to step on any current sponsor's toes, which I don't think I am seeing as I don't sell anything for the 3rd gen but let me know if I'm crossing the line by posting this

Steve, you da man
I think I could trust myself to put them on myself. If you were to get into the 3rd gen market, would you need someone to donate/sell you a set of 3rd gen interior panels to use to make the cuts?

cool, thats not too bad, def something i would be interested in the spring. how would it hold up the new england extremes?

It's a possibility if there is enough interest.

Whoa!! This is just what I was looking for!!! ****en sweet ***!!!
I'd pay around that amount for such a kit! That looks pretty good! I think you would have quite the market here. A lot of third gens are being filtered these days, They get restored or go to the trash. I'm restoring mine and would love this stuff.

depends on the quality and Nick's opinion - but I'd be in for a set.

This is exactly the kind of thing I've been considering. I'm not planning it for the real near future, but I've been looking at possibilities. One of the things I've been looking at is getting an extra set of interior pieces to modify. This would allow me to work on it without tearing up my car, and would allow a possible future owner to go back to "stock" if they wanted to. I'd like to create a nice two tone look, perhaps black and gray. But if a kit were available, that might change my mind.
I liked the tweed look too, btw, and that's not usually my thing.

From the looks of it, it's really good quality stuff. He's a sponsor on Z28.com, and we don't let just anyone become a sponsor on the site. I know if he ends up making a set for our cars, I'm going to buy at least one kit, if not two.Originally Posted by 3.1EyeCandy

Ok, how can we push this guy to make some stuff for us! Every time I look at a third-gen and picture leather interior panels with racing seats, it just screams perfect.

Those look like the new car leather. Everything in the new cars is wrapped like that (or at least it looks like to me). Now, I've covered panels like this before with vinyl and it wasnt that hard. Really, the guy does make it look professional, but I would not be discouraged to do it myself.
Heat gun helps with "relaxing" the vinyl and giving it some "give" to shape around difficult lines. Even I, the guy whos never done it before, could shape vinyl on my first try. So, either buy the kit from the guy, or get your own vinyl and just DO IT.
Just don't be discouraged.

Not to be a d!@k here, but that look's to me like vinyl. And if you wrap all the plastic in leather, you will be very disappointed in about 2-3 years when the leather starts drying out and shinking and pulling away.Seen it too many times, and have had to replace plastic panels for customers before from someone else covering them with leather.Originally Posted by toofazt

Yeah I've been looking to do this for a while myself as my red interior panels are so bright and ugly. I'd like to know if you also plan to do the console lid and armrests? I am looking to get those done, like now actually. PM me when you come back to this thread.

He mentioned it in the ls1tech thread. I think it would be a little harder to pull off in a third gen. At least without modifying the panels and stuff. I mean, what about the glove box in the back, the vents by the spare tire, the door sills, the raised vertical lines in the cargo area plastics. I'm not trying to discourage anything, just think it would be difficult and more of a custom thing someone would take on.

It is alot harder than most people think,I have been doing upholstery work most of my life, and I know how hard it is to cover all the plastic in a 3rd gen fbody.I did a 83 2 years ago,and I cussed that car for a week.Did everything in Tweed and Vinyl 2tone.

I found a guy who is doing 4th Gen seats also. Katzkin leather interiors. It was a great site. You can pick color, stitching, embroidery. I wish there was a site like that for 3rd Gen. Get this 4 custom seats 750 Bucks! I though it would be great to do the 4 seats plus the door panels in leather. The seats two tone to match the stipes and the body color.Originally Posted by BlueZee28

Looks awesome I'd love to have that in my 91 just tell me where and when. I've been thinking of recovering my dash pad in black leather but I can't find any one who sells a peice of leather big enough.

http://www.autoseatskins.com/ This is the site that is doing the fourth gen interiors. BlueZee28 is working on a contact to do 3rd Gen interiors. We need to insure lots of interest before the guy will consider cranking out 3rd Gen interiors. From what I understand, most of the expense involved with custom interiors is producing the pattens from which they cut the materials for the seats and so on. Once those patterns are made it significantly reduces the cost to reproduce the seats. Hopefully we can convince a vendor there is enough interest to take on the project.

I would buy one maybe two considering i might mess up. I hope this will happen. I know it would do good in market.

Steve,
I would interested in a set. I'm surprised that you don't think there is any interest in 3rd gen f-bodies. GM made over 1.1 million of these cars (much more than 4th gens). There is a market and huge potential for companies that produce a quality product for our cars.
This borad has member form all over the world......my club alone has over 140 members and the other Ontario Camaro/Firebird has roughly the same members not to mention the shows we attend bring in literally thousands of people who bombard us with questions about our cars.
Just a thought.......

I would be interested. I have leather TA seats now, and I've been think about leather door panels. The leather covers for the plastic would look nice, too. Wonder if the Steve could be convinced to make door panel skins as well as the leather covers for the panels?
Although, I think that may be too much leather....??
PS MNFormula350, I love the interior.
