Swapping from 85MPH to 145MPH Speedometer??
Hi...I am planning to buy a 145 Speedometer from fbodymotorsports...
Have a 87 Camaro SC with a 85 MPH speedometer now..
Would there be any problems to swap this??...
Do I need to do something about the cables?..Re-Calibrate or anything..Or could I just disconnect my old one and replace this one???
And another thing..I don't need to replace the whole cluster if i want the change from 85mph to 145mph??...
Havent opened up my dash yet so I am just curious...
Working mostly outside the car...lol.

Hope you havn't bought from them yet. There are tons and tons of posts where people have gotten screwed by them. Here's a pretty current thread about their bad customer service in the Aftermarket Vendor Review section.

Do a
and you'll find many many many more.
But to answer your question you will need to swap out the whole cluster and it should just bolt right in depending on what year the cluster is from. I believe a 90 - 92 will not work in your 87. Some one correct me if I'm wrong though.

Do NOT buy anything from F-Body Motorsports. They will take your money and give you nothing but excuses and lies in return.

FYI. 82-89 Camaro speedo heads were cable drive, 90-92 electronic. You can simply swap in the 145 speedo into your cluster, which is what I recommend, especially if you know that the other guages in your original cluster function as designed. No recalibration is required. I doubt that the trip odometer will work, so you might consider the following link:

My plan was to just change the spedometer since I want to have my original mileage and every other gauge at the cluster....
Do you guys really mean what you are saying about Fbodymotorsports???
That was very shocking..Since I am from Norway I don't have so much experience dealing with Companies in US...Most of the time I use Ebay..I almost got weekly deliveries from US so I have been shopping for a while...
I also want to have Leather look Seat covers on my car..My old ones are kind a damaged so I need a change soon...And I was thinking of buying new ones from FB-motorsports....But since there are so many complainings about them I might consider some other shops...
thanks anyway...I haven't bought anything yet from fbodymotorsports..

As earlier stated, its a direct swap cable style.
Now that you have read about FBM and if you still use them, please dont post about them screwing you.You have a much better chance of getting the parts from Ebay.Have you looked at Hawks yet?

You can swap the odometer so that your original odometer is in your new speedo. There is just a small clip holding the bar in place that you can pull out with some needle nose pliers and then slide the entire odometer number reel out (assuming we are talking about stock speedos).

I'd like to interchange an 85 mph of a 87 LT Camaro with a 145 mph from a 82-89 camaro (which I find). May I change sending units if there is one?

FYI: Though advertised as 82-92 (and later in the ad, 85-88), the speedo will fit 82-89 Camaros.

Re: Swapping from 85MPH to 145MPH Speedometer??
He means if you look at the date of the original posting, its from 2007. So the original people that you are asking questions too are probably not here anymore. I don't know the specific answer to your question, but I will add this. My car originally came with idiot lights and I swapped to gauges. Some of the years mentioned above are interchangeable, but some have different style needles. If you want to retain your original speedo, make sure that you pick another set of gauges that have the same needles. Otherwise, it'll look wacky and tampered with. My idiot gauges came with the dual needle speedo, which I like and wanted to keep, so I bought a set of gauges with the right style needles to match. I pulled my speedo out of my cluster and installed it into my new cluster. Changed out the oil pressure and water temp sending unit and had working gauges in my car.

I have the 115 speedo and want the 160 BUT with a different overlay. Do I have to buy the new cluster and a new face?

Re: Swapping from 85MPH to 145MPH Speedometer??
So I know that a 1990-92 speedo isnt a direct swap into an 82-89 thirdgen. Is that only because the 90 to 92 is eleteically driven vs cae driven or does it not bolt in at all either?
I want to change my 145mph cable driven speedo in my thirdgen camaro to a 90 to 92 eletrically driven speedo so that I can use a dakota digital box and a t56 trans with eletrical speedo output like I did in my 87gta which has the 140mph electrically driven speedo.
I realize that I need the pigtails and would need to run wires to the transmission speed output connector. I just need to know if it will bolt in or not. Dont want to buy a speedo if it wont bolt in.
