removing the sfift **** on an 88 iroc w/automatic transmission
Hi guys, i'm new to this site so I hope this is the correct way of doing things. My dillema: How do I remove the shifting **** from the shaft on an automatic transmission? I cannot find any screw etc. Does it simply twist off?

there is a metal retainer holding it in that's shaped like a staple. you have to get a small flathead screwdriver under it and pry it out. It's inserted horizontally from the front side of the ****.

have looked under the **** but see no clip.? could the clip be located under the popup center plastic piece and if so how do you remove the plastic piece without breaking it. thanks!

Check properly, it's on the front side of the shifter, if you have a stock shifter..

Yep, same on mine. Just on the front of the **** just above the bottom edge, hard to see and feel, but it's there. Pry it out and the **** pulls off.

It Helps to pull the shifter to First gear, (Engage the E-Brake First) and look at it from the other side, you'll see a little notch.
