Doooor panels!

I've read a lot of threads on here about making door panels on one's own and was just curious on where to look for suitable material and a general price range! ( by the way, has anyone ever redone those rear interior panels?)

Re: Doooor panels!

I always thought of redoing my door panels in vinyl. just need some kind of simple pattern to follow. maybe the stock lines would be ok.

I would find a local upholstry shop, I know of a place in Placerville that does automotive re upholstry and custom work, I bet they could get you the good material you are looking for. And welcome to the forums. Check out the nor cal boards. few of us are in the sac county.

Re: Doooor panels!

I have redone the rear interior panels. Go to a good automotive paint supply shop and get some SEM paint. Its made for plastic and flexable. first clean the panels really good with like simple green and a scotch brite pad. you need to get all that faded white stuff off of the panel and all silicone. after its clean and dried then paint. I found it best to use primer, then the color, and if you want, use a clear coat. clear comes in flat, satin, and glossy. when you paint do light coats. also don't let the color coat dry completely if you are going to spray the clear. 2 -3 light coats of color and let dry about 15 minutes between each coat then follow with the clear coat the same way. if you let the color dry and then spray clear it does not look good. trust me. just let each coat dry until slightly tacky to almost dry. 15- 20 min. mine turned out super good! took a while, but you can't get new panels anymore. and used are bad too. do this and they will look brand new. made a huge difference in my cars looks.
