89 hatch pull down (i searched, i swear!)

Anyways, trying to diagnose why my hatch wont latch fully closed and it appears the pulldown assembly always remains in the closed position. Checked for +12vdc to the red/white wire connecting to the blue wire, per lonsal in his post and it is showing nothing...

Problem is my chilton's doesnt have the hatch motor circuit in any schematics and I have only been able to find info on pre-89 assemblies. Where is the fuse or fusible link for this wire? The only red/white striped wire I found under the driver side dash appears to go into the engine compartment and is actually on an auxillary fuse circuit on the outside of the fuse box... Naturally there is no fuse there, though, and since the car runs just fine and the wire appears to be engine related I was going to leave it open; good idea,, bad idea?

Thanks for any help, I'm on the cusp of having her back on the road and really would like the hatch to not rattle and bounce around only half closed.

Well, all the fuses in my block are good according to my ohmmeter... What else would prevent me from seeing +12vdc to the motor? Where does that wire go? Its hovering right around 0*F around here, so I'm trying to not stay out for long periods :-p

Do you have power to the relay mounted just below and to the driver side of the unit?

I do not know for sure. What is the power wire? Like I said, my chitlon's seems to lack any and all schematics associated with the power pull down

I don't remember the details, I replaced the relay on a hunch and it started working again. It was an '89 RS.

Re: 89 hatch pull down (i searched, i swear!)

On a firebird the fuse for the pull-down motor is in a separate fuse holder that is attached to the edge of the fuse block.

Re: 89 hatch pull down (i searched, i swear!)

Ok, so that IS the fuse for it... Which would explain why it doesn't work as the fuse is missing! Of course, throwing a 15A in there last night also did not let it work and didn't blow the fuse; but its a step.

Well off the the junkyard to hunt for tires and a stop at the parts store.

Re: 89 hatch pull down (i searched, i swear!)

Well turns out that the tan wire going to the switch for the motor was broken and the connector to the motor itself had a loose connection. Seems to be fixed now, but I don't think I fully trust it, gonna try to avoid using it.

On the plus side, took her for a spin around the block with all the body panels on (for the first time in 4 years) and NO RATTLES!! Secretary of State for fresh plates tomarow
