Steering Column

Can I replace a VATS/airbag steering column in a '90 with one out of an '83?

Also its colapsed, is there anything special I need to do to replace it?

Thanks

Re: Steering Column

It depends on if the column has all the same things as the other column. You will also have to bypass the VATS system or change the igintion lock cylinder and feed the VATS wires up through the column to maintain the VATS. getting the knuckle to come apart can be a little tricky but it's nothing that some penetrating oil and a strong hand can't handle. First and foremost pull the airbag fuse!!!!!! you don't want that thing to deploy while your working on it!!!

Re: Steering Column

The 90/83 wiring connectors will most likely differ.
