Accessing Windshield Defrost Vents.

This is basically my story from another thread:

Taking out the dash to get to the vents is an option, but then I would need to know how to get the dash off to access the vents. My car is a 1987 IROC-Z. I have a whole week of spring break to do whatever, and I have already taken the speedometer out because we have to get it fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I have the dash pad, and the instrument cluster off as mentioned. The screw went inside the windshield defrost vents, and I need to know how to get it out or even remove the vents to get the screw out. In the process, I could even do a good cleaning of the vents. Please help.

Remove the center console, the screw along with whatever else has fallen down there will magically appear.

Nah, not behind the center console

The defrost ducting is a separate system from the normal vents so removing the dash trim for access wont work

If its not rattling around in there and you're not dead set on removing it, Id leave it

If I can get to the vents and get it out, I am more than willing to do what is necessary. I do not want to have a missing screw, or even an odd screw on the dash pad.

Got the chance to try this today, and instead of taking out the whole console, though, I was going to switch the radio back to the stock one (we have had a Jensen in it for a few years). When I pulled the Jensen radio out, I found the screw nested on the metal in plain view. I almost went nuts trying to get this screw back XD. Thank you Iron Duke.
