Welcome to TGO

I would say that a good place to start looking is in the South East board. Best to get the locals to guide you than people from all over the world.

Re: Who does good upholstery work?

Look in the local ads and go to some shows in your area. I used to live in Atlanta and there are many monthly cruise-in shows that are a good source for local craftsmen.

I had my 91 TA leather worked on to repair some pieces with worn areas at "Gary's", a shop in Riverdale. That was 10 years ago, so I don't know if he is still in business.

Good luck. Have you considered buying "skins" and installing them yourself? They are available at many resto web sites and not too hard to install yourself.

Usually depends on the condition of your pads. If they are good, its as easy as lipping the pre-sewn material over the pads and securing with hog rings. If your pads need replacing, it may be better to go to a shop but you can still use covers you buy and have them put them on.

If you are west of ATL, there is a place called Spider
Gear customs in Douglasville. I had them do a custom job on my seats last summer. They did an outstanding job at a very good price. I can send pics if you want.

Re: Who does good upholstery work?

Since I can't figure out how to post a message, I will do it here. I need to have my 1984 Z-28 reupholstered. It is charcoal and is custom cloth. Can I purchase it somewhere or just get the closest thing at a local upholstry shop? Thanks

You can do it either way. I think you can find the replica cloth on some websites that sell auto parts (JC Whitnney, etc).

A good upholstery shop will show you many different fabrics and patterns (some can match perfectly) depending on your style and budget.

Re: Who does good upholstery work?

I just found a spot in Elkhorn, NE, that has almost a perfect copy of my charlcoal cloth seats for my 1984 Camaro Z-28HO. It will cost about $1200.00. I bought the car new, sold it to my former son-in-law in 1995, and got it back from him 18 months ago. It had sat in his garage for almost 9 years. I hope to have it totally restored within another year.
