Window Adjustment advice

My drivers power window rattles relentlessly if it's down so much as an inch. It moves side to side and in and out. I know this has something to do with some guides. Any easy way to make adjustments without completly removing the door panel? Also I'm afraid to roll this window down all the way. Sometimes it doesn't want to come up (stinks at toll booths). Eventually it will but it's unpredictable. I tried a new switch but it still does this intermittant nonsense. Any ideas...?? Is the window motor shot? I thought they just stopped working all together if it was bad. Is this a nightmare job as well. I know the window regulator in my 84 vette took a tech almost all day to replace. I hope a camaro's isn't that hard. I'm handy but no mechanic. Oh, it's a 92 Z28. Hope for some ideas and or help. Thanks.

Re: Window Adjustment advice

you will ultimately have to take the door panel off reguardless. In the tech articles are some articles on converting from manual to power. Some of the suggest ways to adjust them. Under the door panel, there are a couple of guides. Fuzzy ones on the top of the door frame that keep it from rattling outwards and inwards. One to the right above the motor that adjusts your up and down stopping point. and one towards the middle that adjusts the front to back.

As far as motors go, yes just one can go, but it sounds like you have bigger allignment problems that i would address before you start drilling out rivits and tinkering with it that way. The reason i also suggest checking out the tech articles off of the home page is because IF you have to change the motors, it will have explicit instructions on how to remove them, and then you can figure out how to remove the motors from the regulators.

I also suggest a search in the red tool bar above, it is very useful and may provide more details or interesting things to check as far as your problems.

Re: Window Adjustment advice

Sounds like more of an alignment / hardware problem than a bad motor. After you pull the panel off, check all fasteners and tighten them as you make adjustments. Small movement of the glass relates to big improvements in eal and fit.

You also should check the moisture shield above the window motor. If water is getting down onto the motor it could cause the intermitant up-down problem you describe. Does your problem happen more during or after it rains? If so, I would suspect the the shield is no longer protecting the motor as it should.

Good luck.
