How do I test dist-tach wire?
My tach is dead in my 91 RS. I need to check the wire that leads from the distributor to the tach, but I'm not sure how.
Assuming I have the right connector (the dist is too far back for me to see if the connector is marked), there are about 4 pins in the connector at the tach. In the dash there is the connector that the dash seats onto. It has at least 10 or 12 pins.
I'm guessing I have to figure out the proper pins to check the continuity across. BTW, I suck at electrical stuff and I barely know what the stuff I just said means!
can anybody tell me what I need to do?

Re: How do I test dist-tach wire?
Mine was broken in my IROC. If you have the dash out, like I did, you can take a voltmeter and check the connectors for the tach behind the cluster while the car is running. As you rev the voltage will increase. This way you know that the voltage is getting to the gauge and the gauge is dead.
You'll need a wiring guide so you'll know which one is the Tach lead and which one is ground.
Good Luck
