LS1(98) to LT1(97) Cluster Wiring.....
Ok I think I might be loosing my mind or something. Below is a picture of the cluster connector from my 98 TA dash/cluster. In my research I found that its easier to swap in a 97 gauge cluster since the 98+ were all fed from the PCM. my problem is every pin out diagram ive read doesn't match up to the 98 cluster plug thats below. For instance theres suppose to be a white Tach wire at B13, My connector doesn't have anything at B13. the pink wire is in the wrong spot etc... I cant find a shop manual pin out for a 98, all I have to go on are these that Ive found on the web... anyone know whats up?

FYI, this is for a 98TA dash with a 97 cluster thats going into my 91 Z28....

here is what i used
I was lucky to find a unstripped v6 97 in a jy and swapped it into my 91Z. I used that same diagram when doing mine. I don't have a pinout for a 98+ but either they are completely different from the 97 or someone has removed some wires and relocated others on your connector. That pinout that you have is for a 97, I got mine from a local chevy dealer when I was doing my swap. Here is a link to a thread I posted, scroll down and you'll see the diagrams I used. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...installed.html

Thanks! your swap looks great! Ill probably just re-pin this connector to have the gauges that I want in the right places... sucks but I guess thats the best I can do with out finding a 97 and cutting the gauge cluster harness out...

Ok so Im not having to much luck with the cluster power... The gauges seem to work but the high beam, fuel gauge, turn signals and cluster lighting is all messed up....
I have the cluster power. ilum, high beam wired like this
(A1,A5,A13 from the 4th gen) wired to (C2-14 on the 3rd gen)
(A11 from the 4th gen) wired to (C2-8 on the 3rd gen)
(B2 from 4th gen) wired to (C2-13 on the 3rd gen)
whats happening is
1) with the lights on the fuel gauge stops working.
2) the turn signals are both on but dim.
3) dash ilumination only works when I have the interior lights on and dont work when i have the interior lights off and just the headlights/parking lights on.
Both 4th gen grounds are grounded to a ground on C1 and C1 from the 3rd gen.... Im at a loss I dont understand why its doing this... heres the diagrams Im working from....

the only thing i can figure is that since you got a 98 LS1 cluster, you need a 98+ wiring diagram. Something else I forgot to mention was that b4 I did my swap I had one of those power converters from inside a desk top computer that I used to test the wires. Made it much easier, just pluged it into the wall, used my multimeter to figure out which wire was 12v and which was ground. Then grounded the cluster and stuck in the other wire in question to see what would light up or what needle would move. Kinda getto I guess but it worked for me, good luck dude.

How can you tell the difference between the 97 and the 98?
this ones out of the 98.

this ones supose to be a 97.

the one on the top is supose to be the 97 and the one on the bottom is out of the 98

----------
the only thing I see is the trip/oil reset on the 98. the 97 doesnt have that...
----------
IF ANYONE HAS A PIN OUT FOR THE 97 CLUSTER PLEASE SEND IT TO ME! I want to compare it to the 95 pinout on shoeboxs site...
