Power Window Motors

I have been searching the various threads on replacing the window motors and/or regulators. The windows on my Z28 are very slow to go up or down and the passenger side window motor will go a little way, then trip the breaker, and you have to keep at it for a while until the window is all the way up or down.

In looking through the related threads about replacing the motors, I don't recall it being mentioned how much the dealer would charge to fix this issue.
The problem is that I tend to have bad luck when trying something like this and always end up breaking something. I can see in my crystal ball that buying a window would be possible. Besides, I need a technician to charge up my a/c in the car, so I thought while I was there, I would get the windows fixed.

Re: Power Window Motors

I haven't done it in the camaro yet, but I have done it in a few other cars, and it was really pretty simple. On one car it was almost too easy. The hardest was on my 84 Silverado, and that was just do to having to wrestle around through the holes of the inner door panel. If the mechanic is fair guy I wouldn't think it would cost too much to do, but you could probably do it.

Re: Power Window Motors

Over the past 2 nights I replaced the motors. I did the drill 3 holes method and it worked pretty well. The little bolts that come with the new motors are crap. I replaced them with 1/4-20 philips head bolts and everything went together nice. Most importantly, I can roll the window up and down! BTW, I got the motors at my local NAPA store for $39 each, brand new. the rebuilt ones are only like $8 cheaper. I also lubed up every moving part I could get to. I agree, it takes longer to get the door panel off. One note, when you drill the 3 holes, be sure to make them large enough to get the new bolts in, unless you have really little fingers.
