4th gen seat swap
4th gen seat swap
i have a few questions regarding changing out the original seats. my car came with power driver seat. the new seats i got have power driver too, but the switch is broke. will the 4th gen seats bolt up to the 3rd gen seat tracks for the driver side? will there be any benefit for getting a new switch like faster adjustments or wider range from the 4th gen track motors? any help from experienced member would be appreciated.

Re: 4th gen seat swap
Why not just bolt in the 4th gen seats complete, tracks & all, then adapt the wiring?

Re: 4th gen seat swap
Your inquiry was about puting 4th gen seats on 3rd gen tracks also, which is the part I addressed
As for the switches themselves, I don't know anything about swapping out the switches, I just no reason to go through the effort of swapping the full tracks, when the 4th gen ones will bolt right in.

Re: 4th gen seat swap
So will the 4th gen seat bolt up to the 3rd gen tracks? Are they the same tracks and do they use the same motor? You are questioning my questions instead of giving me answers. Please help with some knowledge to my questions instead of giving me more questions i cant answer without the answers to the original questions. thanks.

Re: 4th gen seat swap
p.s. I don't know the answer to the original question... It would be interesting to know though because I have 4th gen seats in my Firebird but the power track for the driver's seat doesn't work. If I could swap in a replacement manual track from a 3rd gen at the jy I would in a second.
I'm a fan of all things manual - locks, windows, seats, etc. Less things to break on a 20+ year old car.

hahahaha yeah I should get on that...

I didn't ask him a million questions. I just don't understand why he want to make it harder than it has to be.
Maybe his question was't clear....

Re: 4th gen seat swap
I think his point is, that the new 4th gen seats he got have broken switches... So he wants to use his 3rd gen power seat tracks, which still function, to mount the 4th gen seats on. Basically to save the $40 for the new switch for the 4th gen seats.
Im not sure if they will fit...but I think i heard that they will. Since most of the seat stuff has stayed similar enough to be a direct bolt in, they will probably swap.
However...all the time spent posting here coudl have been spent just trying it for yourself... You have the two seats, why rely on internet info when you can just go try it. Its how you/we learn. Takes a few minutes to pull a seat and check it out. Do the pass. side first if you need to drive the car soon. If the pass. side swaps out, Im betting the drivers side will too.

It may just be me, but if you are asking questions here on the site, I wouldn't have such an attitude towards the people trying to help. Granted he may have not got the specific answer he needed, but I thought his responses were pretty rude, especially to a senior member of the site. Some problems are fixed by not doing it they way you thought, but by suggestions by other members that have done something similar. Just my opinion though.
Re: 4th gen seat swap
its not about having an attitude, its about getting answers. and it still is obvious, i dont have the answer. the reason i ask is that i have a working 3rd gen seat track with a good switch. i would prefer to use it instead of buying a new switch for the 4th and have the 3rd sit in storage. I would buy the switch for the 4th if it makes improvements on adjustments though. im trying to make it simple, i am looking for ONE person with the experience to answer my question. im not asking the steps to the swap or why i dont just use the 4th track (if it was in perfect working condition of course this would be the logical step), thank you senior. Isnt this the site we come to ask questions and have them answered? This thread should have been 3 or 4 post at the most and we are up to now and still no answer. those that commented, please dont, i didnt ask for them, i just want a straight up answer so i dont have to try to figure out for myself, but i guess it will come down to that anyways. Starting to make me wonder why i post questions.

Re: 4th gen seat swap
This is a free forum. So no one is obligated to answer your question. And while you didnt get a direct answer, that doesnt mean you should waste all this time complaining about having to try something yourself or waiting for a response. There is more info on this board about our cars than anywhere on earth in my opinion. There are a million 4th gen seat threads floating around. I can bet that most people are breezing right over this thread due to that fact itself. Everything you could possibly need to know about 4th gen seats and consoles is posted plenty. Did you search? Here...Two threads that show that they will fit.

Took me 3 minutes..... Done and done. Enjoy your new seats!!

P.S.... Im not really a jerk. I love helping people out. But ya gotta understand that posts dont always read the way you meant them to. Ive seen the "senior" word tossed around in here. That reads very sarcastic to me. Ive been around for awhile, as well as some of the others. Dont assume that that makes us pompus or that we think we are know it alls. But some tact goes a long way in the way a post comes across. If you and I or you and Stephen were talking on the phone or face to face, Im willing to bet the conversation would have gone much smoother. I was going to delete my above post, because it sounded like I was being a jerk...but decided to leave it as a way that I DONT like to come across

Re: 4th gen seat swap
Since we are on the subject of 4th gen seats...
I think I remember reading somewhere that the 4th gen rear seats are narrower than the 3rd gen seats. Is this true?
I don't have slit rear seats in my car, so I was wondering, did the 4th gens come with non-split rear seats? If so, will the latch fit properly?
Also, would the 4th gen front seats hug the driver more than my stock 3rd gen seats? I only ask because I autocross and I don't have the money for a race seat so I was wondering if the 4th gens would prevent me from sliding around as much.
Anyone have any idea how much a decent set of 4th gen seats would cost? Cost of a leather set? Cost of a cloth set?

Re: 4th gen seat swap
The rear 4 th gen seats fit just the same as the orignals. Also I have the full back and not the split ones. The latches also are the same.

Re: 4th gen seat swap
to my knowledge...4th gens never came with split rear seats...or i just have never seen a set...but they will bolt in...latch in perfectly...the seat bottom is a lil narrower than 3rd gen seats...but the carpet usually fills the gap, the 4th gen fronts bolt right in and will hug you more than the flat 3rd gen seats will ever, you can figure the cheapest leather you will find will be $300-$600 color coordinated with price (black/ebony being most expensive), and probably $100-$300 for cloth...maybe $400 for a really mint power set.
