Odd Window motor problem
I have a passenger's side window motor in my 92 Formula that goes up and down in increments. It will go up or down about 5 inches, then I have to wait about 20 seconds to hit the switch again to get it to go another 1/4 or 1/2". I pulled the switch and checked for loose connections/cleaned it with CRC/relubed with dielectric grease. Same problem. Is this most likely a motor, or some kind of hidden relay?
Re: Odd Window motor problem
Sounds like what happened to me...My window would go down but would only go back up in small increments before I would have to wait to try it again.
If I'm not mistaken, somewhere in the motor is a self resetting fuse that gets tripped by excessive current draw. The only option is to replace the motor. I got mine from NAPA for like $30-$60 with a lifetime warranty.
In my camaro the motors are held in with 3 or 4 large rivets..I had to buy a special rivet tool as a hand rivet tool was not enough to pull the pin to get the rivets to stay. Oh yeah, and watch out for the spring that helps the motor...I almost lost a finger when my pass side spring sprung on me... I never was able to get that spring back in again, it was to hard.
