1988 IROC WITH 1992 GAUGES
QUICK LITTLE RUNDOWN. I PURCHASED A 1988 IROC Z WHICH WAS ORIGINALY EQUIPED WITH A CARBORATED 305 AND AN AUTOMATIC TRANS WITH T-TOPS. THE PREVIOUS OWNER SWAPPED OUT THE TRANS FOR A T-5 AND REBUILT THE MOTOR. NOW IT'S 30 OVER, NICE COMP CAM, NICE HEADERS AND REBUILT HEADS. THE MOTOR IS, I BELIEVE, BLUEPRINTED FOR 7200 RPM (NOT SURE WHY ON A 305 WITH A T-5 BUT ANYWAYS). HE BUILT THE MOTOR AND DID THE SWAP NEARLY 2 YEARS AGO AND NEVER GOT THE CAR RUNNING. THE 1988 TPI AND COMPUTER WERE ADDED BUT HE NEVER GOT THE NEW FUEL PUMP WORKING. LONG STORY SHORT, I BOUGHT IT ONE WEEK AGO AND YANKED THE MOTOR AND TRANS FOR NEW PAINT AND A CHECK OF HIS WORK. TWO QUESTIONS, ONE, HAS ANYONE EVER SWAPPED OUT A 1992 GAUGE CLUSTER INTO A 1988 IROC (OR SIMILAR YEAR) AND DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF A STOCK WIRING HARNESS? I KNOW, REPLACE IT, BUT I CANT AND WONT (ITS A WIFE THING).

Best thing you can do is buy a 1988 Camaro Service Manual, it'll help tremendously on your wiring issues.
I swapped a 88 TBI system in my 85 Trans Am and I don't know how I got by without mine. I ended up buying the 88 Camaro service manual first (which I still have) and got the Firebird version a little while after.
There's not much to the fuel pump system and relays, basically a signal comes from the ecm to the relay and back to the pump...that manual covers this.

IMHO your opening up a can of worms. You need to deal with vats, airbag, dash swap, electronic instead of mechanical etc.

It has been done before, I don't remember who did it but if you search you should be able to find it. However, for the wiring you may be better off using a painless harness because you're carbed. The stock 91-92 harnesses are speed density (minus the TBI). The painless harness would probably work much better for you, then you get all brand new wiring too.
