A/C problem

the A/C in my 1991 firebird just doesnt seem to want to work. im not exactly sure what the problem is but when turned on, it doesnt blow cold/hot air through the vents...though i can hear it trying to blow when i turned it on. it does blow air on the top of my dash. what exactly is the problem?
if anyone one has a detailed explanation how to fix this, it would be appreciated.
not that big of a deal, but in this texas heat...its nice to have!

Re: A/C problem

sounds like you have either a bad vacuum pump. vacuum lines and fittings. or bad harness. to be honest i have the t-tops so i never involved myself with this cars a/c system. but thats sounds like the problem

Re: A/C problem

There's a vacuum line that goes through the firewall, to the climate panel, and controls the vent select servo. Basically it uses engine vacuum to move the vent door, and control which vents the air comes from. I'm betting the vacuum line probably just isn't hooked up under the hood, that's the most common cause. It should be fairly easy to spot, it will be coming out of a big wire bundle behind the engine, on the passenger side near the distributor. There will probably be a little valve looking thing inline with it too, that's a one-way valve. Make sure it's connected to a vacuum port somewhere on the intake.
