Its been a wile since i installed mine but you shouldent need anything from the stock shifter. The neutral safty switch and the reverse light switch should come with the shifer. The instructions tell you what wires to to which switch.
Overall i like mine, have heard of people having probems with them tho. Only thing i had a problem with is getting the shift cable adjusted right.

Re: b&m negashifter
i was trying to remove the park lock.
it allows the column to lock when you are in park and the key is off.
i think i fcuked my cable up so i am going to need to order another cable.
its just retarded to give you a 5' cable when the shifter is 2.5' away from the transmission.
fyi, if you get one, they tell you to wrap the cable in a loop and put it on top of the transmission, but they dont make it clear that when they say on top of the trans, they mean not in the console, but actually touching the transmission case.
i tried and figured that there was no way that was correct, so i coiled it up inside the car and i think my cable is...
you know
anyway, as soon as i am done i will post pics.

the cable being too long is why i ordered the 3' cable with minehave the 5' as a back up in case anything happening. sorry i dont remember how to disconnect the park lock cable from the shifter it has been too long ago.

The kid who had my Z28 put thiss shifter in my 91 Z28.... which I have NEVER driven (Had a broken crankshaft- and still running...Im putting a 383 Stroker TPI in it).
However, in pushing it around the driveway I noticed it doesn't like to shift at all. Getting it out of Park is a pain the
a$%&.Any thoughts? Never pulled it apart yet...

There's a detent spring/arm thing in there you can get rid of to release some pressure from that as I did.

Re: b&m negashifter
hey i got the hammer shifter myself. If you can post pics then i can tell you exaclty how to install it i just need to see pics to remind me lol. When i got mine the park lock wasnt working and it wasnt indicating its gear and problem this problem that so i had to take the whole thing apart to fix it...
The reason its so long is because it supposedly makes it easier to siwtch through your gears... least thats wat i've heard..
to the one with the problems shifting you have to move the cable a certain way. i dont know how cuz i nvr had to fix mine (prolly the only thing lol) but if you either look in your manuals trouble shooting section or do a search god luck with it

Re: b&m negashifter
The reason you are having trouble getting it out of park is because you have the cable adjusted to tight.
I have no clue what your talking about with park lock. Everytime the key is off my steering colom locks, no matter where the shifter is positioned.

Re: b&m negashifter
the park lock cable is a cable that was attached to the original shifter. Depending on what postion you were in the cable would either be extended or not and therefore it would lock your column. I didn't know that it didn't have to be hooked up to my new b&m shifter and played hell with it for a few weeks trying to get it to work with the new shifter.... That was alot of fun drilling them holes.....

Re: b&m negashifter
ok, well i got it in and it is awesome. (sounds dirty, i know)
only problem is adjusting it.
it goes into park fine. from park, i have to go into 3 to get it in gear.
if i go right to d, it is still halfway in neutral.
if i go into 3, then push into d, it goes into all 4 gears.
r to d works fine half the time.
do i want to make the cable "longer" or "shorter" with the adjustment screw?

Re: b&m negashifter
The adjustment on them is a pain in the ***. Its hard to get out of park and it doesn't go into park completely without some force. When i adjust the cable one of two things would happen. Either it would not go into park or it would not ratchet all the way down to first. Now I have it so it barely goes into park and barely goes into 1st and its a bitch to get out of park. Also the indicator is between gears when I move it. Not very happy with it and the 6 speed is going in soon!!

Re: b&m negashifter
Ok so as I posted earlier the kid who had my Z first put this shifter in and I have yet to monkey with the no doubt half *** install job... sounds like the hard to shift is a common problem.
So whats the real advantage to the shifter anyhow? Espically since it creates so many problems?

Re: b&m negashifter
well as far as looks go.. I think the shifter looks great... not sure about the benefits of the shifter... but I would like to be able to manual shift without the chance of going into race... I mean Reverse... lol... it seems like since I put the shift kit in my TA I've been having alot of issues with the car hunting through the gears at high speeds... so I figure if I'm going to run it hard the shifter from B&M would give me the care free option of ratcheting through the gears...
Just my two cents on the purpose of the shifter...
But after hearing of the problems.. I'm starting to think of other options...

Re: b&m negashifter
fixed it.
what happened was the cable has a bracket that you mount it to on the trans, and i forgot to torque the lock nuts on the cable to the bracket.
basically, the cable was moving back and forth, but the tranny was still in park.
back to awesome-ness.
as for adjustment, i dont see the big deal here.
put the trans in park manually, and set the slider thing so that it matches up with the shifter in park.
then put the trans in 1 and split the difference if there is one.
mine didnt have one.
as long as you have about 2 days, and some patience its not a bad job, and i recommend the shifter to anyone.
(granted, i was super hungover the first day so i didnt get much done)
some tips:
the directions say to drill two 9/32 holes for mounting the original sheet metal screws in their new locations.
after going out and buying a bit ( $6 ) turns out the original screws dont fit.
thankfully i drilled "test holes" and found this out ahead of time.
drill a 1/4" hole and use a 5/16 sheet metal screw when you attach the front bracket.
i HIGHLY wish i had gotten a dremel to cut the plastic in the console.
the hacksaw idea was terrible, and took about 2.5 hours.
the directions say use a little grease on the threads of the ****, or handle, but i had to use a LOT of axle grease to get it to go on.
the clearance is like nothing, and if you dont grease it it will lock up.
im sure there are things i am forgetting, but thats how it is.

Re: b&m negashifter
Also dont beat on it. My friend used to slam in when he was manualy shifting it. Ended up bending the baseplate making the shifter want to lock up sometimes. We had to take it apart and bend the plates back.
Sounds like you got luckey with the adjustment. I have installed it in a few cars, The first time was easy and wondered why everyone had problems. The other times i found out why they have trouble. Its a kindof a hit and miss thing.

Re: b&m negashifter
Also the megashifter doesn't have a provision for the park lock cable if I remember correctly. So just throw the old shifter in the trash with the cable still attached. This is the cable that locks the steering wheel when in park.

Re: b&m negashifter
yea all that park lock cable does is stop the trans from being shifted without the key in the on pos. there is a wire mod you got to do so the car thinks its in park so it will start, you can use the micro switchs on the B&M or do like i did and just splice it together so it thinks its in park lol
what locks the wheel is not this park cable, its a locking pin in the colum that is controled by the position of the key, hince the "lock" position on your ign
