Window "play"

So my driver side window is coming loose.
It moves side to side (easy fix and I know how to do it) BUT, it also has play going up and down which I am less sure about??

I put a new window motor in about a year ao and it has worked fine ever since....but now I have this "play" eg. If the window is half way down, you can pull the glass up half an inch without fighting against the motor etc.

An ideas what is allowing it to move up with the glass "loose"?

(I reeeeeeeeeeeeally hope I don't need to pull that motor out again!!!!)

Check the tech article on the site here;

https://www.thirdgen.org/windowadjust

See if you can get anything out of that. Then post pics of it! Mine are totally shot (wobbly, loose, terrible...)

Re: Window "play"

Thanks Sonix.

I had my nose inside my doors the other day and it seems to be my horizontal track (#5 in ur link).

The weird thing is tho if I adjust that (to stop the glass being loose) then the final destination will change, and the glass sits perfect when closed already, just rattles when partially/fully down???

Re: Window "play"

The weather stripping along the top of the door panel and on the outside edge of the door should keep the window glass stable when it's partially rolled down. We all know how bad the window seals age on these cars !

You had said that you replaced the motor a while back - be sure that the rivets ( or srews/nuts) that you used to reinstall the motor /regulator are tight and not allowing any play. If the mounting hardware is not tight than it will cause the mounting holes on the door to become "oblong" and the window will appear loose as a result.

Just something else to look out for !

If my window is half down I have 1/8 to 1/4inch of slop between the glass and the outer seal...if it is up it sits perfectly.

Yeah one of the first things I did when I bought the car was replace that outer stripping with brand new ones.

I had the motor rivets replaced with new 1/4 inch (same a factory) rivets, popped in with a body shop compressor tool so they are as tight as they will ever be (no play there).

This slop is just so weird... everything I can possibly adjust seems fine except the vertical track which will change the final position and that doesn't need to move ;( grrrr....

hmmmmm.....the only thing I can think of is to just adjust that vertical track and see what happens....maybe I can compensate with other adjustments to get it right....
