Re: Courtesy Lights?

If you want a pic of what my car looks like, go to the home page, click on 1992 Camaro pics, and look at pic 17. its a purple camaro with t-tops. My car looks just like that, but i have original interior, and rims. but i have the same paint color, mine just doesn't look as nice. (i need a paint job) but that is pretty much what my car looks like. i even have the CAMARO decal across the top of my windshield.

Re: Courtesy Lights?

in all honesty, i wanted them in my '88 bird, i looked under the dash, found the sockets, put bulbs in them, and they work. Then again if i've read enough about my car, 88 and older cars were almost pre-wired for everything at times. Not sure if this would apply for a '92, but i would most certainly check. My sockets were just taped back farther on the harness.

Re: Courtesy Lights?

Re: Courtesy Lights?

I saw a socket under my dash when I was swapping in the clutch pedal, but I haven't gotten around to putting a bulb in it to see if it works. My car is a 91.

Re: Courtesy Lights?

It should work...thats what i had...a 194 socket on both sides. Pulled them down, put a bulb in it and got blinded, lol. Screwed them into my hush panels and i had functional floor lighting. Gotta wonder why GM didn't just make it standard if they were wired in automatically anyways. Raise the cars MSRP by $.05 and it would have covered the cost of installation and for the bulbs.

Re: Courtesy Lights?

I put little LED's in my floorboards. My car is teal green 1992, and I put green LED lights in - I mounted these little strips with 3 LED's from Advance Auto under the dash to the underside of the hush panel, so they light up the floorboards. I rigged them up so they come on a) when the lights are turned on, b) when the door is opened, c) when the light switch is turned for interior lights to light. It was quite an ordeal, and I can't remember exactly how I did it - it took me a few days to figure it all out. At one point, I remember that I had a power feedback through teh light switch that made all my park lamops light up when the door was open

I know I had to use a series of relays to convert negative power to positive power with the opening of the door switch and solve the power feedback issue -the door switch operates by connecting a ground when the switch is open (door open) and interrupting the ground when the switch is closed (door is closed).

I also used those winshield washer nozzle LED lights mounted to each corner on the rear of the center console to illuminate the rear floorboards as well. It turned out really nice - there is a slight green glow in the floorboards when driving at night - just enough to illuminate, but not enough to distract driving.

And lastly, I used a license plate LED bolt inside the center console - I put it in the hole that is already there for the adjustment **** of the clock that was installed in the console of the earlier models (they never changed the console, and the hole is still there, in the front).

IIRC, what I did was run a wire from an empty BATT terminal in the fuse box - this was my 'power' for the LED's. This wire ran to RELAY1 and RELAY2, giving them power when the relays were 'energized'. Then I ran a wire from the light switch park lamp wire to RELAY1, so that when the park lights were turned on, the relay was energized, and the power was run to the LED's.

Then I ran a wire from the door switch wire to RELAY2, which is wired so it's in a constant state of 'energized' - that way, when the door switch is opened (makes the ground), the "energized" RELAY2 makes a complete circuit, and sends juice to the LED's - if that makes any sense.

The RELAY1 was the one required to keep the park lamps from coming on when the door was opened - having it straight wired allowed feedback power to run from the door switch to the light switch and power the park lamps on the exterior when the door was opened - the RELAY1 interrupted this feedback power - if that makes sense.

Sorry for the bad memory here, it's been a year ago I did this, and I can't see the car now because it's at the paint shop getting way too much cash thrown at it!

Just think it through, play with some wiring, and you'll figure it out sooner or later

Re: Courtesy Lights?

Ya, im kind of holding off on doing anything to the car right now, im driving it til they put salt on the roads, and i also don't have any money right now. when winter rolls around ill be able to do some work to the car and next spring she should look pretty hot! the one thing i need to do is get it painted, but that is goin to wait for a long time yet, i can't afford to have it painted right now.

Re: Courtesy Lights?

Hi all
trying to finalize putting interior back together (85 Camaro sport vin H)and am on to pass side kick panel and hush panel and am looking for the bulb socket for courtesy light. I have the original sales document and it lists the Auxiliary lighting code TR9. Already did the drivers side and white/orange wires and socket with 194 bulb were right there, popped it in holder in hush panel, works fine.

Pass side-been under there awhile now with flashlight, have kick panel off also, and do not see anything other than the door jam switch (connected and working and a wire connected to the bottom of a round diaphram type item. See NO orange/white wires and no socket anywhere around.

Q1: Does anyone know where this is located and how to find?
Q2: I REMOVED COMPUTER and related harness, just left the plugs intact which I also see under pass dash, BUT is the courtesy light/socket on the "emissions harness" and that is why it's not there?
thanks all
tom

Re: Courtesy Lights?

My Guess is that the pass side courtesy socket is probably wrapped & taped up to the dash harness somewhere on the pass side. Both sides are connected to the same wiring,.. harness so if 1 socket is there, the other one should be there too !
