Minor rust

Ok, so first, hello, my names John, first post.

Anyway, I am looking at purchasing a 90 Camaro RS. It would basically be a project car, though it is in good running shape at the moment and doesn't need really any immediate work on it, minus what sounds like possibly some time issues with the engine. (it starts right up and roars out of the gate, just kind of makes a weird click or small sound like that every so often )

The only problems I've noticed is that around the left rear wheel well there is some fairly minimal rust. (about an inch or so in a couple of spots I believe) Do you think it be a waste of time to try and sand it down, and is there any other option I have to prevent the rust from spreading/getting rid of the current rust there? The car's in really nice shape from what I have seen of it, and right now the rust thing is the only part that scares me. The title is clean and it has an inspection good through 09, so that makes me feel good about it, but as I said, still a little scared of the rust. Anyway, thanks for the time, hopefully you guys can help.

EDIT: Sorry, in my tiredness and looking at 2 parts of the forum at once, I accidentally posted in the wrong section, could a mod move it? My bad...

Re: Minor rust

Good to know, it was explained to me as being a more serious problem by a guy at a local parts store, so that's why I was concerned. I'm almost positive the floor pans are good, but like I said I'm going to have it put on a lift so I can see for sure.
