The seat belts in my convertible are just about shot. They slack up and sag while I'm driving and I find myself constantly snuging them up. Has anyone replaced their 3rd gen seat belts with a set from a 4th gen car? Is anyone familiar with the basic belt designs from the 3rd to 4th gen cars?
Has the basic design changed much or should a 4th gen set bolt right up to the old mounts? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

I've seen another post on the board where someone installed 4th gen seat belts in their 3rd gen so I'm going to buy a set of 4th gen seat belts and try and install them in my convertible. I know I will have to make some brackets for the rear belts to install them since my 88 didn't come with shoulder harnesses. I will let you all know how it works out and post some pics once I'm finished.

 

I used 4th gen front belts and 3rd gen rear belts, as I didn't want to cut up the interior to make the rear 4th gen belts (w/shoulder harness) fit.

 

Last month I attempted to install 4th gen seat belts in my 3rd gen vert. It didn't work! The basic design is different, I was able to mount them, but they would not extend out of the retractors. All seat belts have a little pendulum looking device in them that locks the belt when it shifts too far from its designed resting position. Due to the angle of the install, they would'nt work.
I asked Hawks about seat belt options for my vert, and they said only 87-92 convertible specific belt styles will work. Should have know. Just passing along the info incase anyone else is thinking of attempting this in the future.
