White numbers on gauges
Howdy. In my 90 GTA the numbers are white when I have my lights on, not red. Every other T/A I've seen has red gauges. All my other controls in the car illuminate red except for my gauge numbering. Are they just faded and I need a new cluster? Any ideas or help greatly appreciated

Re: White numbers on gauges
pics would be great, but it sounds like someone has taken the orange/red covers off of the panel lights. The bulbs are standard 194s with the plastic covers over them....

Are they just little red rubber covers? Or what. I'm pissed because I love the Red Pontiac gauges

If you don't get the answer your looking for, you can always do what I did. I have an 88 iroc and my husband replaced all the regular bulbs (194) with red LEDs (194) from www.sixity.com . If you try and use regular red glass bulbs or red rubber bulb covers they won't emit enough light. They were pricey but worth it . I think 2 for 10.99 . Doing it this way the whole gage area will be lit instead of just the numbers . Hope this helps

Yes, they are just red rubber/plastic-like covers from the factory. They do emit plenty of light, I have had 6 thirdgen Trans Ams or GTAs and never had a problem seeing the gauges.
I did put the red 194 replacement LEDs in my GTA. These are not the same color as the factory gauges. They are now RED, not the orange/red factory color.
Just look for a thirdgen trans am cluster in the junkyard. Also, most late 80s early 90s sunbirds, grand prixs and grand ams have the same red/orange bulb covers in their clusters.

Re: White numbers on gauges
Hey good plan... I could go pick one up and tear it apart and find what I need. The j/y here has I think three or 4 Third gen 'birds so I'm sure they'll have a cluster... stupid part about it is everything just got snowed on today but hey, I guess that's the price I pay. And those cars don't see too much demand around here so I'll see if I can get a cluster for cheap. I may also get the factory shifter... say this is off topic for this I think but is the shifter for a V6 5 speed the same as a 305 5 speed. Interchangeable?

So I contacted the Local JY and for a cluster that's been sitting outside for the past 2 years that doesn't work they want $80.00 I thought that was a bit steep
