Retro Making Door Panels
So, my dad has a 68 Camaro and I was helping him work on it the other day, and couldn't help but notice how awesome the door panel looks. It's just so sleek looking, and jus makes the interior look awesome. Anyway, I hate my boring faded old door panels in my 1990 RS and would like to reupholster them and retro make them to be like my dad's 68 door panels. I was wondering if anyone has ever done something similar, if so, I would like a detailed description on how to do it myself. I did a google search and found a picture of someone who has done it, and I love the way it looks. The first picture is my dad's door panel, and the 2nd picture is the 3rd gen i googled.

Re: Retro Making Door Panels
That looks to me like a regular black third gen panel with the older badging on it, but maybe someone else can chime in on that.
Door panels aren't rocket science, but you have to be able to sew to do the look you want.
You just basically cut a piece of wood or ABS to the shape of the door panel and re-attach the upper window moulding and screw in the little clips. When you cover it, you're gonna have to sew the desired pattern, which for something like that will probably involve a little bit of foam, and you just spray some adhesive down on the wood/abs and wrap the cloth around the door. You could staple it for extra insurance, but a good adhesive should be enough.
I'd let the stuff dry on top overnight, then flip the panel over, tuck the material around and glue that side and let it sit overnight, so gravity is doing the work.
It's not that hard. Take your door panel off and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Re: Retro Making Door Panels
FWIW, some thirdgens had 1st gen style door panels in them, it was usually base model cars. my parents have a 68 camaro, and i found a set of door panels that look like 1st gen panels in a junkyard. They are black, vinyl covered. I will sell them if you want them; PM me for more info.
