I looked up the part number on gmpartsdirect cause some ebayer had it listed. Stupid.

Yeah if you notice all the people who sell them on ebay say they have been discontinued for over 10 years.Guess some people believe that.Ive been getting these pushbutton kits for years now.To swap in new buttons I just use a flat bladed screwdriver.Pop the old ones out and snap the new ones in.Usually takes me like 5 minutes although its only that easy after years of practice.Good Luck

No you dont open up the buckle.You have to pop out the buttons

Got 'em both out. One's in. The other one's being a pain.

Those look pretty. Mine need replacing as well. They are faded and discolored to white. Looks like crap. I need to replace the whole thing anyways since the sleeves are cracked to s**t.

The dealer you bought them from should have done if for you. It takes them all of 5 minutes.

Not a recall. I bought the belts on ebay. The recall was already performed.
I'm replacing them cause they look chalky.

Does GM make them in black?I painted mine years ago & the paint is fianlly chipping.

How do you replace all the internals?

I have the OEM kit that has enough springs, metal pieces, and red buttons to completely fix all 4 buckles..

Would it just be better to have the dealer do it?

Do it yourself unless GM will do it for free. It really wasn't that difficult.
Pop out the old button with a small screwdriver. The spring will come out with just your finger. Install new spring with finger. Pop in new button making sure it works properly. Then press on the new metal tang.
Took me 20 minutes being that it was my first set and had to figure it out.

Be very careful, the plastic housing is old and brittle and can easily break. Go slow and don't force anything.

is it really this easy? i wanna swap my backseat buttons into my front ones since my backs are like new.

It is very very easy... I did all four of my buckles in less than 10 minutes on my first try, thanks to the guys info here on TGO

Just put a screw driver in where the buckle goes and pry it out? I know my rears have tw metal clip on them since I pulled them out of my old 90 so do I need to worry about those?

You should just buy the new kit for 16$. I did this like 3 years ago and yes the first one you have to be careful because you don't want to crack the plastic but the last one i did took 5 minutes once I got the hang of it. I also installed the metal retainer but that adds stress to the plastic housing and cracked it, forcing me to buy a whole new front belt receiver. I recommend against using the metal retainer (I think this came stock on 1LE belt retainers).

Make sure you put on the metal bumper first before you try to pry the old buttons out.If you dont its possible to snap the plastic if its old and brittle.Ask me how I know this

If he puts the metal bumper on first it will hard for him to get his fingers in there to replace the spring and button though.

i got the driver side done. must say it looks alot better, those springs are fun to get back in place.

Are you talking about the red insert here ? If so it wouldn't bother me a bit if it happen to break as they are getting replaced with new..

No not the button itself, he is talking about the actual plastic housing which cracks very easily especially when it's old.

i got the buttons done and the metals clips in, but i dont see how the metal clips tighten up?

They snap on.. You have to press them hard to snap them on. Make sure you are putting them on the right way too. Try not to break the plastic housing if you decide to put these on, you don't absolutely need to put these on if you don't want to.

I never had a problem putting the spring back in.Sometimes the button can be a pain though

what are the clips for?

They don't really do anything lol.. They might hold the belt buckle tighter in place so it moves less but it won't add to its functionality. All you need to change is the button and spring.

I think this photo may help. I have a new button kit, but haven't done it yet because I didn't have the tool in the photo. But, if some of you say you have done, I'll try it your way on some of the spares I have.
