Heater temperature control cable bracket broken

Hi,

I'm going to be doing a heater core change this weekend and decided now is the right time to fix my temperature control cable bracket. The little metal bracket that connects the cable to the temperature door in the heater box is broken. Does anyone know how to fix this? Do I need a new temperature control door? Or a whole new heater box?

Thanks,

John

Re: Heater temperature control cable bracket broken

That's a good question I'd like an answer to as well. Mine has been broken for, let's see, now, four years or so now? I've tried to pull what was left of the lever off of the door shaft, pulling the box apart (with the exception of splitting it from the firewall), and nothing has helped. Actually, trying to pull the remnant of the lever off of the shaft only broke it worse...

I went to the dealer today. That part is discontinued. It was part number 3050740. Does anybody know how to replace one?

Thanks

Im not sure on how to repair the conntrol but i will say be careful the heater lines on the old one will probably fall off. Your gonna have a mess in the floor board so cover it up in some plastic, i just replaced mine 2 weeks ago.

Yeah I'm about to start a heater core replacement. So I figure I might as well fix that bracket while the core is out of the way.

Mine is broke too, it seems to be a common problem. From what I understand it requires pulling the whole dash out which is beyond my skill.

I'd replace it while I was in there, heater cores are a pain in any car.I don't know why they don't make it easy for you, with like a trap door and a few bolts you could take out.

Re: Heater temperature control cable bracket broken

Thanks Tony. My plan is to replace both the heater core and the temperature control bracket. My problem is I don't know how to replace the bracket.
