Re: 4 point seatbelt harness

The mounting for the shoulder straps should be around shoulder height so the only proper way of doing it is with a roll cage in the car. A lot of people will run them down the back of the seat to the floor or back to the floor board above the gas tank, but that is not a safe way to do it. In a wreck the shoulder straps keep you from going forward and the lap belt keeps you from going upward, if you make the shoulder straps mount two low in a front impact it will compress your spine and cause major back injury.

The floor pan isn't strong enough for the mount either without reinforcement.

So yes people have done it but it is less safe than the 3 point the car came with unless you have the proper mounting points and locations for each of the 4 points.

Re: 4 point seatbelt harness

I've seen several people fab up a harness mount bar, going between the 2 rear sear shoulder mounts (in the later years with them) & attaching the front seat shoulder belts to it. Keeps the angle correct, strong & safe.

Search & you'll find a thread all about it & pics of the one commercially already made for 4th gens.

Re: 4 point seatbelt harness

the 4pt harness i got just came with 4 closed eyebolts for each harness. i deleted my back seats so this worked out pretty well i just ran the back 2 straps that come out of the seats strait to the old rear seat belt holes and used the front seat belt holes for the front 2 bolts. i also have new racing seats that i relocated further back and a custom reat seat delete so you dont really notice the straps going to the back.

It does keep the angle correct, however, a harness is designed to keep your body upright. When you are using a harness without a true rollcage, if the vehicle is rolled, there is nothing to keep the roof from coming down and crushing your head. The stock seatbelt system is designed, in such event, to allow your body to slide either direction with such force from the roof.

IMHO, If you want to use a harness, get a bolt-in cage at the least. You don't want to end up with spine issues or dead.
