Help with my shifter **** button...

Okay, so the button on my '83 shift **** is stuck down.

I removed the button, ****, and that long (6" long?), plastic, blue thingy out of the shifter tube. I cleaned, lubed and re-assembled it all, and the button is still in the stuck in position . Shouldn't there be some sort of spring or something in there?

What now?

Yes, there is a spring in the bottom of the assembly. I pulled one off the shelf and took a picture so you can see where it should be. The picture was taken from the front of the of the shifter.

Maybe I'm having a hard time visualizing it, but that one looks different from mine.

I dug alittle deeper today..

The spring is broken and and the "J" shaped lockout thingy fell out of the shifter rod. I also found a "V" shaped clip sitting there. Not quite sure where the V shaped clip goes.
