Upshift Light in Automatic???????
Quite a few parts on my '84 Z28 came out of an '89 IROC-Z, so I know not everything is stock -- But what I've been trying to figure out is why a car with an automatic transmission would have a FUNCTIONING upshift light? Since the light actually works, is it more probable that the dash was swapped out of the '89, or the entire transmission?

Does it actually stay off, until a shift is indicated? Or it just there & will light up & stay lit, if you put a bulb in?

It has a bulb in it, it's hooked up and functioning. So no, it's not on full-time if that's what you mean.

Welcome to the site. It's helpful in an automatic if you do some drag racing and have a manual valve body in the car. That way you know when to shift.
