have a couple questions about dash swap

I am really thinking about swapping out the dash in my 89 RS to a 4th generation dash/door panels/console but have a few questions about what is needed. I have read all the dash switching threads and even though the same question has been asked none of the answers seemed to please me or they didn't get answered at all.
1: where the heck do I find the little yellow box that hooks into the digital speedo and what is it called (I have seen it called VSS but every thing I find online is calling the part inside the transmission the VSS)

2: will this work to convert a cable to electronic speedo "Speed Generator - Part # 620001" here is a link http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd620.htm

3: from what I understand if you get a 93-96 Firebird dash it will be analog speedo and this isn't needed is this correct?

I am sorry to start another thread about this swap but I am one of those type of people that likes to have all the parts handy before starting a project that way I don't have to try and hunt anything down and it takle a year to do a simple project because of one part that is impossible to find

Re: have a couple questions about dash swap

Nobody? can you at least tell me if that speed generator thing is what is needed to make it work with a digital speedo?

NeverMind I found the PDF for it here http://www.dakotadigital.com/PDF/SEN-01-1.PDF and I see no reason it wouldn't work. I am guessing the little yellow thing is nothing but a connector to hook up to the connector on the back of the guages and is not actually needed

Re: have a couple questions about dash swap

1.) The little yellow box on the back of the cluster is the early form of a VSS. It simply take sthe spinning speedo cable and converts it to a signal the earlier computers could use to calculate speed. I may be mistaken, but I don't think this is a part that you can find by itself, unless you steal one from a junkyard car.
2.) I believe that sender will work. You will need to contact the company to get some technical information of what the pulse per mile will be. There is a specific range for the electronic gauges that the cluster reads for the speedo. I believe it is 4,000 ppm for the speedo to register the correct speed
3.) 93 and up f-body's use an electronic speedo. The computer gets the signal from the vss in the trans and relays the information to the dash cluster. The chip in the cluster then converts that to movement in the needle.

I hope this helps.
