steering wheel loose??now what??

ok,i just put a new column in my 92 rs.
well,it's not new,but diffrent.

i just put an 89 column in my 92 rs and everything has been going just great.
i have drove the car at lease 200 miles,or more with no problems.
this morning i get in it and head about 7 miles one way to the cionvenient store.
when i pull back in my driveway my steering wheel is loose.
i pull the horn button for better look.
the big bolt that holds wheel on is tight.
the steering wheel is very loose and just wiggles back/forth.
nothing moves but the wheel.
anyone tell me what my problem is?

i have driven it for over a week with no problems.
how can it just all a sudden get loose??

i seem to be having nothing but bad luck with 92 camaros and steering columns.

HELP,
jd
here is my email.

where are you located handyman?
that sure is alot of money just to fix your column.
i guess it's according to where you are located.
the cost of living may be more i guess.
it only cost me 140.00 to replace my column in my 89.
that included furnishing the column as well.
i wish i had kept that car. it had the h.o. 305
and would really haul.
it was my first though and i thought the interior was in
too bad of shape to keep.
if i only knew then what i know now.
that's been about 8 months and i have owned 4 since
and realized that the parts are not too expensive right now.
if the economy gets better though you can expect to see a double in the price of a third gen car for sure.

just check around and make sure your mechanic isn't taking advantage of you.
that seems really high price to fix the problems associated with the third gen columns.
they are trouble, but there also fixable without having to take out a second mortgage.
good luck with your fix.
jd
where are you located anyway?

Re: steering wheel loose??now what??

It would be the three small bolts down inside the column that tighten it. There are some instructions I saw somewhere on how to get to them to tighten. Mine was done many years ago. Search for wobbly steering wheel.
