Re: Headliner repair tutorial (many pics)

This thread really motivates me to tackle my headliner. I was originally planning to just pickup a ABS one but my backboard is perfect. Where are you guys getting the fabrics? Would be nice to get some samples before I tackle doing so and then just end up having a mismatched red interior.

Also about the headliner retainers. I busted one or two removing the headliner. Is this fixable? Meaning can I just get new ones and reattach it to the backboard? Would really suck doing all that and having to glue it back on.

How do you remove the A pillar trim without destroying it?

67 Firebird is totally different. There is no backer board. There are bows that hold the plastic material up.

Re: Headliner repair tutorial (many pics)

Came across this after we did the liner on my 91 Camaro coupe. I didn't use any cloth because the resin permeated into the cardboard backer already. Biggest tip is to make sure to get all the old foam off the backer first. We glassed both sides and it was as stiff as, well, a board!

Bought headliner material from JoAnn's (black) and used the 3M spray to stick it down. We found it works best if you have a couple extra people to help hold the material over the board and lower it down onto it, patting it down, starting in the middle, working towards the outside edges.

took my head liner, sail panels, sun visors to an interior shop. $140 later, looks better than new.
and I just reinstalled everything.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to subscribe and post part number of the nylon "A-pillar" or also called "garnish moulding clip rivet retainer fastener."

Re: Headliner repair tutorial (many pics)

Hi,
BlackDog36 you did a pretty decent job with your headliner.
I have been doing automotive upholstery for a full time living for over 5 years now
and part time for over 20 years after i attended WTI tech college for upholstery.

I would of used and do use a different adhesive.
I am not familiar with the adhesive you used,
but most in aersol cans do not hold up to the high temps
the inside of a vehilce can get during the summer months.

Technically, there is a different material for the sail panels.
But, I usually do not use it - the headliner material works just fine.
The material is not supposed to have the foam backing over the speakers.

BUt as i said, you did a pretty good job.
