I just bought an 89 white iroc-z with a red interior and it has red arm rests that are too far gone to save. But I see both the stock pics posted both cars have black arm rests. Did either of you change them out to black?

As far as i know my armrest is stock. I wonder if in the later cars when you got a red interior you got a red armrest maybe? Here is one on ebay with a red interior now and it has the black armrest in the center but red door armrests. Is that what your referring to?
The arm rests in the 87 Firebird had RED door handles.... the style with a "line" running along it. ( Same style that's pictured - just red.) Even the dash housing was red in that car !!
i love the red interiors... its so "80's" lol. i think it adds so much character to these cars. you can find black and grey interiors in any car, how many cars do you see nowadays in red? i think it makes it really unique... plus when you open the doors and those footwell lights illuminate the red carpet, it looks amazing!!!!

Yea i always liked the red interior of my old iroc. It was an 80s thing i think to have red in the interior. Here is the interior in my "new" iroc. A bit of a play on the early 80s interiors (and yes there is some red/orange in it)
I was never really a fan of the red,..... Probably because they are in such tough shape in the ThirdGens I get !!! I gotta' admit however; they do look pretty nice when they are in good shape !
Here's a picture of the Red interior from my old 87 IROC:
