water inside of hatch
After it rains the carpet in the very bottom of the "well" is wet. The back portion that dips down. The weird part is none of the carpet around it is wet and I can't see any water coming in through the weatherstripping. I had a toolbox back there and the top of it wasn't wet....so I guess it's coming in somewhere but how is it getting behind the carpet and not getting anything wet on the way there.

Re: water inside of hatch
My 1992 does it, and so does my wife's 1997. I've determined that the water leaks in UNDER the weatherstripping, running along the inside fenderwell of the car (sticking to the side due to cohesion), and thus the bottom gets wet without wetting anything else (visible). Look at your hatch from the side - where the angle changes from a downward angle to a flatter angle - that's where it seems these cars collect water. The water is supposed to run along the hatch channel out the rear, and the weatherstripping is supposed to keep in from coming inside, but it leaks under the weatherstripping between it and the body I think.
That's my thought anyway, because I've sealed everything else in my car and the wife's car, and it still does it in both. BUT - if I park with the rear of the car facing downhill on a decent grade, it doesn't leak, even in a torrential downpour - my theory is that at that angle, the water runs way faster, not having time to bleed up under the weatherstripping. So I just park that way to avoid the bathtub effect.

if you dont mind a little bit of a mess, try putting a light coat of baby powder or something similar around the inside of trunk area. I found my trunk seal was leaking because the dust that had built up back there showed a little trail back to the source.

There's a plug right in the middle of the well

Hello fellow suffers,When it rains and my Rogue starts moving there is water dripping inside the trunk area. It comes from inside the plastic molding around the hatch door glass. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Thanks.

Re: Water leak dripping inside trunk area from door hatch?
yes, mine did that too, water came out from the sides of the plastic trim. the culprit is the seal that's wedged between the glass and the metal boot lid, mine was dried up, old and brittle. You have to take the metal piece off the glass off to replace it with a good wad of windshield adhesive, not too big of a job just be careful with the glass and go slow

That's not a bad idea at all... Good way to find EXACTLY where it's coming from... Thanks for the idea!

I have the same issue with the 90. I noticed rust around where the 3rd brake light/spoiler bolts to the hatch, as if water is leaking through there.

Re: water inside of hatch
Hello All!!
I've seen the water come into the back hatch three different ways!!
1. Via the weather seal where it comes down the side, and then turns parallel with the ground!!
2. Via the weather seal where it transitions at the rear deck lid!!
3. Via deck lid leading edge!!
Fix for #1 is: Use silicon emulsion to puff up the seal, and don't park facing down hill, as the first time you turn out of your drive way, the car flexes, and lets all the water in!!
Fix for #2 is: Use black silicon sealant at the transition!!
Fix for #3 is: Use urethane window adhesive after removing the deck lid, and doing a thorough cleaning of all the old adhesive!!
Make sure that you run a bead of this stuff along the leading edge of the deck lid also!!

I've personnally done fix #1, and #2!!
Worked for me!!
