A few questions about cleaning interior parts and carpet...

Hey guys, well I'm fixing up my 1991 Trans Am convertible right now (https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/conv...ml#post4431916) and currently I have the interior torn apart for the most part.

Now what would be the best cleaning product that you all would recommend for cleaning this crap off of the plastic/rubber/leather parts? Here's some pictures of what I mean.

Driver's side door handle. Now is this black stuff from gunk or is that the color of the plastic underneath it getting exposed from years of wear and tear?

Driver's side cup holder:

One of the rear seats:

Center console along with the kick board thing on the right, what is that called? They kinda look worse in person:

And I also would like to deep clean my carpet (that's what she said?) especially since I have it out of my car.

I was thinking of using a wet carpet vacuum or maybe a hose with a big brush... maybe even a pressure washer. What method do you guys use and what kind of shampoo/cleaner?

Thanks everybody!

Mineral spirits and a toothbrush. That's what I used when I had all my interior pieces out, and it worked well to get rid of the scuff marks. It will also remove any armor-all which may be hiding scratches too. Once you get them clean, you'll probably need to cover with a light coat of armor all.

Arm rest = Simple Green, stiff bristle brush.
cup holder = clean, degrease, prep, repaint.
rear seat cushion = Tanner's Preserve leather cleaner and conditioner
console = Simple Green to degrease and remove years of Armor All
door sill = Simple Green, scrub with a stiff bristle brush, treat with Armor All or equivilent.
carpet = Shop Vac, your choice of spot cleaner/degreaser, and then pressure wash it. It sounds extreme and you'll be thinking it's crazy the entire time you're spraying, and the 6 hours while it dries, but it actually works pretty well.

Just a word of caution on the carpet... Sometimes if you clean them outside of the car, they will loose their shape. And when you put it back, you'll have buldges and sags where you didnt have them before. I like to install the carpet back in the car, run a carpet cleaner on it (you can rent one for cheap if you dont have access to one), once its clean, let it air dry for a day or so... After you clean it, you can take it out and let it dry outside the car if you want.

I cleaned my carpet from my 86 outside of the car, laying flat on the driveway, and it doesnt fit quite as nice anymore. Hindsight...

EDIT:...Nevermind. I just went back to your main thread and realized you already cleaned it outside of the car. This is the downside to starting a new thread for each section of your project. I left the main to comment on your side threads and didnt even see page two haha.

lol it's OK. I let the carpet dry out. Hopefully I'll be putting it back in the car in a week or so. Wish me luck!
