Interior Overhaul

Ok, now before you ask DREW I did a search and found nothing.....

I want to take out my interior, fix things that need fixing, clean it up, add sound deadeners under the carpet, and rewire the speakers and such.

Does anyone have tips on how to go about this, and what I should do.

As of now...I don't have cash for things like new carpet and that, so mostly everything that comes out of the car, will be going back in.

All I want to do is fix it up, and make sure that its good to last, and everything will hold up, and add some new things to make it better.

If you missed my other thread in Car Audio, I want to work with the wiring for the speakers so I can add an amp and retain a stock look to the car.

This is going to be my first overhaul and I just want some help with it. So any pics of advice that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated, thanks again guys.

edit:

Heres some pics of the interior

PS....The dash rattles, and the carpet has stains, and it just feels like theres room for improvement inside the car.

Re: Interior Overhaul

Dude that interior looks pretty nice. I'd leave it alone. I have mine completly torn apart right now, cause mine was bad, but if it was as nice as yours looks and I didn't want to replace the capeting, I would 1, use a good auto capet cleaner to take out the spots (not that cheap crap with the plastic brush on the top of the can, there are some the will blow you away at what they'll take out). 2. Remove the top dash pad, intsall some thin foam or something under it, tighten up everything - check any screws and and wouldn't hurt to pull the placic off the gauges and make sure the gauge housing is tight, then button it back up and see if you get rid of the squeeks, then 3, fix the seats or get some new ones or some new factory seat covers and call it a day. If your not going to use new carpet and from what you can tell its not rusty under there (if your t-tops dont leak) or at least any holes in your floor, I would leave it in there. There is alot of padding and sound deadner under there already and without new carpet I say its not worth it.

I still think theres room for improvment....haha

That dash pad isnt the original one, its some cheap replacement...

The cover to the center storage is separating itself

I just tightened up the dash and its starting to squeak again already

The foam in the driver seat is beginning to break down

I need new sail panels, visors, and a headliner

Plus eventually I want to run new speaker wire and get some really thick Monster cable to improve my sound, and I'm going to be putting in an amp sometime.

And I don't know if theres supposed to be a light there or not, but it looks like there should be one in the center storage, can anyone tell me if theres supposed to be one there?

The corners of the top of the air bag part of the steering wheel are curling up, and I know its a common problem but I want to fix it.

Re: Interior Overhaul

your interior does look really nice. i recently have spruced up my interior, and what i did was get all the panels and trim that needed replacing from a donor car. I think proceeded to clean everything really really good.

CLEANLINESS is EVERYTHING, i preped all the pieces and painted them with some krylon fusion paint and it looks great! that way i also had a chance to clean behind all the panels etc. so it just became a simple remove and replace on most things. While i was in there i vaccumed shamppoed the carpet and all and im very happy with it. All i need now is new seats and a headliner and im ready to go. If my camera was working id post some pics for you sorry.

Re: Interior Overhaul

Ok so If you guys don't think I should take it apart, what should I use to clean it? I've been using Armor All and from what I've heard its probably the worst thing you could use.

Check the Mothers website for suggestions...can't remember the names of the product off the top of my head.

I replaced my entire interior and added sound deadener so I see no reason why you shouldn't remove your interior and redo it.

Most new and used (replacement) interior parts can be had from Hawks or ebay (or the classified section).

New headliner can be done by yourself (search for how to threads).

New sail panels and visors can be done by yourself or by "The Coveregirl" (birdsandbowties.com).

No light inside the centre console on my 89.

Additional sound deadening would make the speakers that much better by cutting out excessive road noise and let me focus on the inside of the car and conversation and music

And yes, I do plan on doing the sail panels myself, and well maybe the headliner too....

It just looks like there should be a light in the console, and in my owners manual it gives a bulb number for the console, so maybe it was a new feature for '90, I know they added a lot of features....
