Air bag replacements
Air bag replacements
I have a car I am trying to make 'like new' and therefore looking for a replacement air bag.
My 91 T/A's airbag is pealing around the edges and just looks crappy from the drivers seat. Is there anyone that sells airbag replacements for a decent price?

Re: Air bag replacements
I've seen on ebay a few times. None are cheap, and all the 3rd gen airbags are getting loosening on the edges - the sun peels the covers back, and the years seem to shrink them.
One suggestion is a 4th gen wheel. It's a direct bolt-on, would be much newer, still have airbag. They are a slightly different design, but you'd have a "Firebird" steering wheel with the Firebird word on the airbag. I did this with my Camaro - installed a 4th gen wheel - and it looks GREAT!
The ONLY issue is with the airbag connector - 3rd gens have a larger sized connector than the 4th gens - so either 1) get the connector off the steering column side of the donar car and solder onto your wires, 2) cut the airbag side connector off your old airbag and solder to the 4th gen airbag, or 3) just cut the wires on both ends and connect together with your own connectors.
NOTE: This assumes a standard wheel, and not the fancy wheels with the radio controls - I'm sure you could figure out the radio control wiring as well if any of the 4th gen birds had radio control wheels (I'm no 'Bird expert).
Anyway - it's an idea!
