It's held in by 2 or 3 bolts. Easy to remove once the dash is out.

Re: The 4th Gen Dash Swap Guide.

I know this has been asked a 100 times but what cluster do I need. I have a 86 camaro. The dash and cluster I have are from a 99 V6 camaro. I thought 98-02 clusters were not able to be used. But then someone said I can use it just like any of the other clusters. So now I'm confused. What cluster do I need?

I thought I needed a cluster from a 93-97 firebird. But when I looked some of the 97 firebird cluster had a analog odometer and some were digital so what do I need.

Re: The 4th Gen Dash Swap Guide.

Has anyone wired in the dimmer switch on a thirdgen without a dimmer previously? My 86 Iroc never had a dimmer, therefore I am missing some of the wires. I'm not sure why, but my dome light is on constantly and I can't turn it off. I think I may have cut one of the wires for the door switch.

I don't have a white wire from my previous headlight switch controlling the dome light, nor do I have the little heatsink looking piece that smooths the dimming rate.

Re: The 4th Gen Dash Swap Guide.

If you are not using an Ls1 PCM, you have to use an analog dash from 93-97. 98+ use a Serial 32 signal that powers 4 of the gauges.

THANK YOU!! that is what I thought then a guy messaged me saying I could I just had to use the whole harness. Didn't make sense. I highly appreciate it.

Sorry to keep bugging you but do you by any chance have a picture of the drivers side top dash mount? As in where the 4th gen dash attaches to the factory hole. Just trying to figure out how far it's suppose to be from it

Re: The 4th Gen Dash Swap Guide.

I’m doing a fourth gen dash swap. Dash is out of a 94 firebird I believe. Most of the wiring is done, except I can’t figure out one wire. It’s the Grey wire on the dimmer ****. The connector has four wires Brown, Blk, Grey, green. I tried to run it to the other Grey wire from the main light switch and it cuts everything out like I crossed to a ground. When I put my volt meter on it. It says it’s a ground.

Re: The 4th Gen Dash Swap Guide.

I'm pretty sure one of the dimmer wires runs directly to the fuse panel and splits off making things a bit weird. I can't remember which one though. I probable should have taken better notes when I swapped mine.

so im guessing the white wire would be the dome lights? I don’t have the original body harness, it was to hacked up so I installed a new one. But most of the colors are GM spec.
