Interior question

First time I have posted although I have to admit to "trolling" this forum for the past 3 years and just want to say thank you for all the help and advice I've gotten from reading all of the members posts. I have wanted a 3rd Gen since high school when they were new. After 15 plus years I finally had the oppurtunity to purchase a 1992 Firebird with a 5.0 tbi. Nothing special except for the fact its black, has t-tops and a five speed. The paint is original and near perfect(garage kept its entire life). The interior is less than average though. Anyway shortly after I purchased this car it became my daily driver due to unforseen circumstances. Over the winter I was able to purchase a truck and now am putting this car together (on a budget!!). I've redone the rims from scratch, built a subwoofer box (thanks for all the info on that!),found a mint dashpad cheap and stumbled across some almost perfect black carpet for free. I still need seats and desperately need a t-top bag(can't see spending 75.00 bucks on a used one). Anyway the question I have is the car is black and the interior is grey. I am switching out the carpet to black and eventually switching out the seats or dyeing them black as finances allow. As I am removing all the interior I was going to paint all the plastic black. My wife says I am crazy and thinks I should leave all the plastic grey and just put black carpet, seats, and sail panels in. I still think it would look cool all black but she says I'm an idiot and would be too much black. Any opinions? Is my wife correct and car needs some grey to offset all the black, or am I right?!
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any input!!!!

Dennis

Re: Interior question

Its all a question of preferences. If you like how it looks all black then go all black. If you like the contrast between the black and gray, then go that route. Hell if you like green and purple do that (just expect some pointing and laughing). The point is, its your car, make it how you want it and not how other people think it should be.

Re: Interior question

I'm debating this one myself. My GTA is currently black with the beachwood (tan) interior. The headliner will need to be replaced, and the lumbar seats need recovering/replacing. Everything else is in good to very good condition and only needs a thorough cleaning. Anyway, after 20 years of the beachwood, I'm thinking of changing it up by going black.

The question is, since the dash and center console are a mixture of black and gray pieces, should I continue that theme and do a two-tone black/gray interior? Maybe black seats with gray inserts? The factory black door panels were a mixture of black and gray as well. Or, since I'd be painting the beachwood parts black anyay, maybe I should paint the radio pod and lower console black too. Then the only gray would be in the switches and a trim piece next to the shifter. All black, or black/gray two tone - either would look great.

For that matter, Two-tone black/beachwood wouldn't be bad either, since it would only involve adding a bit more black to what I already have. The door panels would be the hardest, since I don't see an easy way to dye the vinyl parts black and leave the fabric parts beachwood. But I'm sure it could be done with sufficient resources ($$$) applied.

Oh well, I'm not really helping you much Dennis. I'll second what Travis said. Do whatever you think YOU will like the best. Your wife will just have to live with it. She's not wrong, but you're not crazy either. It would look good either way.

Re: Interior question

I've finally got the interior ripped out and working on removing the carpet. I think I'm gonna go ahead and dye all the plastic black. The bulk of it is in the rear as many pieces of the front are already stock black. When I finish I will post pictures. Unfortunetly with my hectic work schedule and side jobs going, not quite sure when I'll be done!!

Thanks for the responses

Re: Interior question

I had an 87 that had original all black interior. Seats, plastic, carpet, headliner, the works. I liked it.
