Guage cluster?

I have an 85 firebird and the cluster has only a 120 mph speedo, fuel level and im pretty sure some idiot lights and a mechanical spedometer cable. my question is if I buy a 140 spedometer cluster with tach, fuel, battery and oil pressure will it work? or would it be easier to just get an aftermarket three guage cluster.

well it should fit in no problem. you may have to wire it though I couldnt tell you for sure. I would say see if the guy will let you try it to make sure. The 140mph was an option in the third gen, they seem to be kinda uncommon. The 140mph is rare around here. I personally would get it if i could cheap. Then if it works great, if not you should be able to get your money back since they are somewhat hard to find. maybe post a few pics of you cluster?

I'm not too familiar with Birds. That said, I don't believe a cable-driven 140 was ever offered in a Bird.

Re: Guage cluster?

1985 Firebirds only came with 85 MPH speedos so somebody swapped your speedo at some point. However, 1985 was the last year Firebirds came with a mechanical speedo and ALL Firebird 120 and 140 MPH speedos are electronic. If your car has a 120 MPH speedo (and it works) that means somebody converted your car over for an electronic speedo. If that's the case, you should be able to install a 140 speedo as well.

However, if your car has idiot lights and not gauges, you will likely have to make some other changes in order for your tach and gauges to work.
