Swapping 90-92 140mph speedometer; questions
I just bought a 1992 B4C 140mph speedo for my 91Z28 to replace the 110 speedo.
IIRC, Its just a simple bolt in thing, correct? Swap 'em and that it? How about swapping odometer internals? My car has 159k, whereas the new guages have 200k+ on 'em; Can I swap the odometer units in the cluster?
Any help would be awesome!

i'm a little confused . your sig. says 91Z28 , you should already have a 140 speedo . ( your 91Z28 may be a poor little 91R/S ) anyway it should be a plug & play after you swap out speed sensor on transmission . good luck .

No need to swap out the speed sensor on the transmission. You may have to swap the printed circuit board behind the tach though. I had to on mine, but I have a 305 TBI RS, so you may not have to. There is a thread about odometer fix, shows how to take it apart, from there you should be able to swap em out, do a search for the thread.

Mine is a just a run of the mill 91 Z28. (No RS/Z28 clones here)

sorry i may be wrong . i said i may be . i just bought a 91Z28 parts car . TPI , T-5 , T tops , A/C , 140mph speedo . it's not a 1le or b4c , since it's a parts car , trashed & will never see the road again . the VIN # is 1G1FP23F5ML108032 . is it one that slipped through the holes ? i really don't know . never too old to learn . good luck .
Re: Swapping 90-92 140mph speedometer; questions
The 91-92 Z28 is just like earlier Z28's, in that GM sold some with less/more performance options. They could be had with the F41 suspension, 235 tires, the 110mph speedometer, single cat, and 2.73 gears. Or they could be had with FE2 suspension, 245/50 tires, 140mph speedometer, dual cats, etc. A 305TPI/5spd car with G92 would have the 140mph speedometer.

To disassemble the instrument cluster, remove the needles and peel off the overlays. Here is where you will be able to access the light bulbs. You should also see tiny screws that you can take out to get to the odometer. Once disconnected you can change the odometer wheels to reflect the mileage you want and just put everything back together.
WARNING! Be VERY careful when removing the cluster needles and overlays. the needles should pull out with gentle but firm pressure. Take your time peeling off the overlays because they can tear or crease. Be EXTREMELY careful if you have to remove the little electrical windings behind the needles (I don't think you will need to unless you find out one of the guages is not working). There are tiny wires there and if they break, you will have to get it replaced by a speedo shop.
It's not difficult to do. Just take your time and pay close attention to how all the parts go back on. Good Luck

Re: Swapping 90-92 140mph speedometer; questions
I can't speak specifically about Camaros but I swapped my 1987 Trans Ams 85MPH cluster for a 140MPH speedo from another 1987 car. All I did was swap the clusters and I ran the car up past 90MPH to make sure it worked. I also had another vehicle pace me to make sure my readings were accurate and they were.
Its an easy swap.

Re: Swapping 90-92 140mph speedometer; questions
'Course that's all dependent on how quickly I can swap my odometer into it! The donor car was a B4C car so its got over 200k on it and mine only has around 159k.

Thats what I was hoping to hear. I'm hoping to get them either late this week or early-mid next week and I'll swap 'em in whatever day they get here...

Re: Swapping 90-92 140mph speedometer; questions
I got home today and attempted to remove the odometer from the 140 cluster - I got the needle off and the assembly out of the cluster - BUT -The actual overlay tore. Nothing I could do; it was just super brittle. So; Now I'm on the hunt for gauge overlays. Does anyone know if GM still sells just the overlay sticker part?
If not, who makes overlay kits that will REPLACE the stock overlay?
