I've searched but I can't seem to find anything. I found one thread that listed all the consoles you could use and which cars you could use them in but I can't seem to find it now. Does anyone know if it'll work?

Correct, you'll need the later style.

 

'97 will work also -- the interior was redesigned for the 30th Anniversary model, but they waited til '98 to change the front clip on the Camaros.

UPS will be delivering my '00 Camaro console today. I already have the bird radio pod and will be attempting to make the two work in my 91 Z28. I hope this console is nicer than the first one I bought like 6 years ago. I bought my first one for $125 on Ebay and the guy jacked a lot of parts off of it before shipping it (even though they were in the pics on the auction). Got this one out of a 30k car for $136 shipped. Appeared complete in the auction. Finger's crossed!

 

Dante, want to do this swap as well, can you please photo document your progress for very unskilled hackers such as myself who has to pay people to do most of his stuff, plus I live in Phoenix and need that big cup holder for my 44oz Mountain Dew fountain drink :-)

 

So for my 92 Z28 I'll need a 98+ camaro center and an 88 trans am radio pod to make this work. Is that the complete parts list as well, or are there some odds and ends, also, where to mount the switches as well?

yes, if you've got a camaro, you will need a bird radio pod

as for hacking, the only thing I had to modify was the "horn" at the very front of the console. its a little triangular piece of plastic at the very front of the console. you'll know it when you see it (see the middle console in my photos above); it's gotta come off since it hits the radio pod, but you'll never see it when installed.

 

got mine from a 2002 SS.... i did not get the automatic version.... manual version slips right in with a smalll amount of shaving with a dremel... 15in install.. love it!

 

the manual console is a heck of a lot easier to deal with than an auto console. forgot to mention that....

 

I have a 00 Bird auto console. Will be going in a 84 Camaro with a T-56 setup. After searching all posts here I didn't see this combo used yet.

Are the 2000 Bird consoles different for the manual trannies then the auto guys? Can this Bird console work in the 84 with a T-56 setup? I know I will need to massage the console to make it fit with the 3rd generation dash from what I have seen so far in all of the other posts. I have searched lots of console posts but haven't found anything on this combo yet.

 

Hey if i understood your converstion about the center councel if i have an 88 trans i can use 98 and up center counsel. i noticed you had an 87 trans and you said you went through a couple diff units. Thanks

 

the issue you run into fit wise on the "LS1" consoles is the trim around the shifter. If you're creative, you can cut up the trim and attach a boot to it to work for a stick car. I went the other way (m/t console on a/t shifter) only because I did not want to worry about modifying the placement of the shifter to line up with the opening in the bezel.

if you're using a 4th gen console in a 3rd gen camaro, you'll need to get a firebird radio pod. (may even have a spare lying around....)

 

If the 84 dash/radio pod is like the 82 Trans Am then you need to mod your setup to get the 97+ console to fit since yours will be like the 3rd gen camaros.

I like the 4th gen consoles and door panels but will be going with the Classic dash setup. Covan changed it's name for these 3rd gen Camaro units to Classic Dash who now carries them.

 

hey thanks for posting this i have a couple questions. mine is a 83 manaul bird. if i convert to a newer console can i still use my stock shifter will it fit through the newer shift boot in length and everything. second question what about the Ebrake can i use my stocker and is there any modifing i have todo to use it.
